I just got a hold of a new hard drive for my xbox, tried booting it up after a year of no use and the SCART signal is not getting to the TV.
Only the sound plays, while the TV displays "no video signal". I have no idea where the problem is and how to solve it, is there any way I can see if it's the cable or the hardware? I tried it with two different TVs and none of them work, but I've used the Xbox on them years ago so it's not the TV's fault.
Can anyone help me? I doubt ill be able to find another scart adapter.

thanks for the reply, I only have this one scart cable, and my TV only has one hole for a/v which is pretty weird

I tried hooking it up to another tv and as I switched the source from cable to SCART i noticed the main xbox menu quickly moving away, it was twisted up and distortioned

have a look inside the scart cable (the side that connects to your tv) and see if there's any loose wires maybe a ground wire has came loose or something or the c-video/c-sync, also try wiggling the connector on the xbox side incase there's any dry solder joints or the xbox side of the scart cable is faulty.

if you're not sure open the scart end and upload some pictures for folks to look at, or just buy a new cable off ebay.

you can use the AV cables through your scart socket on the tv with an adapter video audio left audio right > scart hope that helps some

Hmm. I'd try the av cables first to rule anything out. I don't have SCART over here in Australia, maybe another user with more experience with SCART could help you out. Sorry I can't help beyond that :/

Remember, SCART is a plug type, not a format.

Is the plug you're using on the TV expecting a RGB signal, composite or S-Video over that particular input?

If it's expecting RGB and you're sending composite, you'll have an issue. You're also not going to get RGB if it's not a full 21 pin cable. If it's just a 10 pin SCART cable, it's only going to carry composite.

What I sometimes do when I lack hardware to do simple testing, like spare av cable or spare Xbox, Is I will go in a local used game shop where they know me and will politely ask if they would test my cable/xbox with another console/cable known to work.

no such thing over here, ill post some info now, but I'd like to point out again that this same cable / console worked a while ago on this TV.
Pretty much nothing happened to it since then, it just sat on a shelf

Sounds like the cable may have gone bad. I'd try getting another cable and seeing if that fixes the issue. If it doesn't then your box has issues. Probably bad plug on the console, loose components, or a messed up trace. If the cable turns out to be fine, then crack open the box and check around for anything amiss. Look for stuff like leaking capacitors, loose SMD components, and cut traces. Stuff like that can happen after sitting for a year.

not technically true, although most TVs will autodetect which signal older ones will default to composite and if rgb signal is there, switch to rgb or s-video if s-video

normally it goes in order of preference RGB>S-Video>Composite

although some tv's you can manually switch between the formats.

as for the number of pins, alot of RGB console cables are not full 21 pin connectors they have the unused pins removed as they are one way cables.

my saturn cable is like this and it is RGB.

as stated its probably the cable / connectors at one or both ends, or the socket on the xbox try cleaning that it may be dusty / dirty

but buy another cable they should be cheap enough off ebay. that will at least rule it out.
