The new web browser is now out for the Wii. Loads of improvements over the old one. I'm typing this on it right now.
Ps3 web Browser > Wii (Plus wii is only free for lim time) biggest issue with wii browser is they try making it overly simplistic which makes it hard to do serious web browsing vs just quick vg sites.
Its the Opera one right? I wonder if the limited time offer is becos they plan to bundle it with the console in future versions. Would nintendo do that?
My son said as I was leaving this morning if my Wii was flashing (download) Strange how his always goes first Most odd Will have a play later
Free until June means those who already downloaded it do not have to pay 500 points; only new downloaders do. Some people don't seem to understand this in other forums and blogs I go to, so I'm just preventing the same from happening here. As for the browser itself, it's definitely better than the trial version. Tab support + more plugins + keyboard compatibility would make me use it a lot more often though. I imagine when the eventual keyboard and hard drive come out, these wishes will become reality. Even so, the browser is all right for the time being.. It's DEFINITELY NOT FINISHED in the current state.
To be honest, i think that the new browser is far less annoying than the trial version, especially with the improved auto zoom feature and setting the bottom bar to disappear when you press 1. I have no idea why neither of these things are on by default though. I don't really think the ps3's browser has much going for it over using a pc (it sucks the same power, takes as long to get started, etc. However, i've just discovered the wonder of both predictive text and one handed browsing (ooh er)
Web browsing is still a novelty on consoles. The Ps3 is much easier to use but still not as great as using a pc. Atleast Ps3 supports tabs and USB keyboards. As well predictive text helps alot (specialy typing in web addresses).
ITT: Everyone agrees that console browsing is just a novelty for the time being. Until we can save JPEGs, import documents, and almost all the whatnot a real PC can do, it'll stay that way. Of course, then you have a PConsole, so what do you do then?
I don't see the point of using a browser at 640x480, especially without a keyboard. Horrible! With the PS3 with wifi and High Def then OK, not bad for a quick check of something. Shame the XB360 doesn't let me browse the web.
I don't see the point of browsing on a console either. It's becoming like blogs: everyone's offering them, each with their own add-ons and syncronisations, yet even then, most people juse us plain ol vanilla Wordpress. I have a PC to surf on. If I need to look up something quickly, I have a laptop, or even an old PDA I can use, if needed. My laptop has a better screen, keyboard and a real mouse. Beat that, Wii.
Had you missed a comma, that sentence would have taken on a new meaning. On a side note: I know I don't post much. And I find it funny that given how seldom I post, I decide to respond to this. However, I guess I just couldn't pass on the opportunity.
Does nobody keep up on stuff? This hit the net last year. http://www.anpark.com/software.aspx It may not be a "native" browser, but it does let you browse the web if you've got the 360 setup with a MCE PC. -hl718
Yea, web browsing on consoles is mostly pointless, but I will admit to watching episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force on YouTube using the Wii.
I have not watched Aqua Teen Hunger Force, but I have watched my share of videos on Youtube. While we're on the topic of video, I think its a shame that the Wii's internet browser Opera isn't compatible with any form of downloadable video (ie. mpg, avi, qt, etc). It seems to only be able to view certain types of embedded video (like Youtube, Google Video), but, that is if they don't use the latest version of flash.
