The museum rebuild and update is now underway. I'm having to learn PHP along the way so it might take some time. If anyone can help me out with dreamweaver, I'd be appreciative. I don't want to recode the pages, or use something that might become outdated like flash. I was thinking about CSS stylesheet designs, but I think plain old HTML will weather the test of time the best. This is a big step towards getting the site back to what it originally was, a museum and resource. The pages will be previewed and then set up for evaluation and correction (hopefully none) in a wikipedia style page. Knowledge could be pooled and the data updated at any time. I hope you're as excited as I am. -ASSEMbler
Of course we all are. You can even make a base layout for us, so when we find something interesting we'll help the site too. PS: Have you found someone to help you finishing what CJPC was supposed to?
He's learning PHP himself. I'm pumped for new pages. Seems like we know a lot more about certain items now. Too bad about the loss of the google ranking though. The old roarvgm site comes up on the first page of google searches for "assembler" (which is probably the source of the occasional person who wants to learn to program in assembly) and is also a top link for things like "FM Towns" and "Playdia." I suppose this site's ranking will go up too, over time.
Hey, I don't think using CSS is going to be a problem in the future - it's a significant part of the HTML standard now and they wouldn't want to remove it from the standard if they know what's good for them. And besides that, it's piss easy to learn and will make writing new pages about a billion times less tedious, especially if you're using (more or less) the same layout for each page.
Css can cause problems for people trying to translate the pages with altavista or another site into another language.
What?!?! CSS shouldn't cause a problem! It is basically an extension of HTML. It is WAY better to use CSS, HTML is old and outdated - in fact, if you scratch write with Dreamweaver on default settings in design view, you'll probably be using CSS font tags, rather than <FONT> tags! Are you scratch building the pages, or do you have a (gay) template such as phpNuke? Most PHP designers use PSD files, I do believe.
Yeah! Let us know if you need pictures of systems or games or whatever...though I'm pretty sure I don't own too much rare and obscure...
