By now you all know that games in Brazil aren't exactly cheap. The Xbox One will cost $500 in USA. In Brazil, it will be priced at R$ 2.200 = $1.016 dollars But today Sony announced the price of the PS4 in Brazil. Even thought it's priced $400 in USA, $100 cheaper than the Xbox One, in Brazil it will cost R$ 4.000. That's $1.850 dollars!!! INSANE! To put into perspective, i did a small trip plan: Cheapest flight to Miami (early december): 1.943 Reais Reasonable hotel in Miami: Aprox. 300 Reais each day USA PS4 price: 400 dollars + 7% sales tax = 428 dollars (925 Reais) Summing up: Flight Ticket + 3 days in Miami + PS4 = 3.768 Reais Brazil PS4 price: 4.000 Reais. Going to Miami, staying for 3 days and getting a PS4 is cheaper than buying it here. PS4 Price around the world (In Reais)
They'd ether get hit with import tax or have it confiscated I reckon. And holy shit! That's breath-taking. Any specific reason they're asking so much in brazil? Has this got something to do with the Brazilian government? Silly question really, but I mean it can't be that all companies are charging ridiculous prices to export to Brazil.
After doing a little research: ...What? Still, it has to be marked up the arse to even be near that. Moreover, I only remember hearing how expensive next gen was in South Africa, but shit! http://www.ibtimes.com/ps4-cost-r-4...4-launch-date-price-brazilian-gamers-outraged
Taxes are a part of the problem, yes, but like i posted before the Xbox One will be almost half the price at 2.200 Reais. And it's 100 dollars more expensive than the PS4 everywhere else! Sony Brazil is known to overprice everything as they act like a "premium" company. A famous quote could be said about them: "Greed is good". And even when then try to become more affordable, then just don't do it right. PS3 first party games are actually cheaper than USA these days, but the overall product quality is pathetic. Cheap ass blu-ray cases, terrible cover art print, missing internal art and stupid pressing problems like the first lot of Killzone Trilogy not having Killzone HD, Beyond Two Souls without PT-BR subtitles, Game of the year editions without DLCs...
That's appalling! I bet piracy is rife in your region then? I couldn't face getting my pants pulled down like that with no explanation whatsoever. Also thanks MSX for the info...I had no idea, that really is bad.
Of course we had to be #2 on that list, but technically we are number 1 because at least in IT jobs here we make roughly half what brazilians do, so at the end of the day a PS4 is 4800 reais or so here considering what it takes to come up with the money. And going shopping to miami has been the norm for years here, a lot of people do it specially for clothing which is both really expensive and of crap quality. Hahahahahaha nope! maybe something smaller like a Vita but a PS4 would never go past mail customs and I don't know about brazil but here its a fucking lottery, you never know how much you have to pay in taxes. If the fuckhead clerk taking your case had a good day you might be able to convince him of letting you go with a nominal fee, but if the shithead is in a bad mood like they always are you are going to have a hard time convincing him that PS4 isn't like $800 in the united states Oh and they add the price of shipping to the total and then do the tax on top of that, and with a lot of retro stuff the shipping is more than the price of the item
For all of you talking about piracy, yes, there's a lot of PS2 / Wii bootleg copies still available, but for current gen that's pratically dead. People buy PC games on Steam / Origin or download over piratebay. As for consoles, the PS3 not having piracy (bootleg discs) made sure people bought original games (imported or not) and then making the used game market a huge business (as big as it was during the 16-bit era). The 360 does have bootleg copies discs, but Microsoft did such a good job lowering prices that most people just buy the original game, specially for the online stuff. For those who want to use piracy, they just mod their consoles and download ripped games over the internet.
Taxes would make the price go up to 1.800, 1.900. For it to go to 4.000 Reais is greed. Greedy Sony Brazil.
Take these as a rumor: Some are saying that the final price for the PS4 here in Brazil would be R$1999, including the profit for the stores. But because the PS3 and the Vita haven't sold very well, Sony Brazil only got 10 000 PS4 units for the whole country. The management decided to try to cash in the most that they could, setting the price at R$3999. On Christmas 2014 the console will go down to R$3000 and then it will go to R$2500 when the PS4 begins to be manufactured here (2015). Again take these info as a rumour. Even I don't believe these prices for the future.
I talked to NotMessi about this in the past and the main problem are taxes, 60 to 70% IIRC and I think they also have something like the VAT on top of that so go figure... He also mentioned there is an import ban going on and some stuff just isn't available anymore unless smuggled in and in that case I guess you should be ready to pay whatever the hell the guy wants for it.
That's pretty stupid, I'm sure you can get away with paying less than half of that amount by importing the console, even with the taxes.
