There's an interesting article over on WiiFanboy about the original version of Journey of Dreams.

Apparently the 360 version was a bit crap and Sega were quite unhappy. I'd like to know more about the PlayStation 3 version. Anyone here lucky enough to see either of these versions before they were canned?

It can only be a good thing - have you played Journey of Dreams? I hate myself for holding on to a hope that it would be a worthy sequel to the Saturn original.

360 and PS3 were lucky to be spared IMO.

I had no clue they were doing it for those. I do know my "vision" of nights is destroyed by hearing him (her) talk on Sega Tennis.

Journey of Dreams was indeed meant for the PS3 and 360, but it wasn't quality issues that led to its platform change. Actually, it's been suggested producer Takashi Iizuka would have preferred to finish the game on these consoles, though management demanded it be moved onto the Wii because they felt - maybe correctly? - that NiGHTS as a franchise was better suited to Nintendo's system. However, the powers that be weren't prepared to extend the game's development cycle and so the whole project had to be reworked with only a year left before its release deadline, which may explain any shortcomings with the end product. I'm not really going to comment on this game either way just now, yet at the same time I can't help but sympathise with Sonic Team because it's obvious their overall vision for this long-awaited update was compromised. While there's no excuse for the mistakes being made with recent Sonic efforts, this one could have been much greater if executive decisions hadn't seriously limited what Iizuka and his team were originally planning. As I've said before (in other threads here quite recently, in fact), we have no reason to doubt Sega insiders when they do speak up, probably because the leak of this revelation also provided hints of a "werewolf" themed Sonic game long before Unleashed was... well... unleashed! Based on the fact Sega has managed to keep this incident relatively free from public scrutiny (until now, at least), maybe it's a good thing AM2 is given the freedom to take its time with a third installment of Shenmue, and also we're now more familiar with just how little artistic licenses such as NiGHTS mean to those in power at the company in its post-Sammy takeover period?

It was moved over to the Wii because the game could be sold more easily on that format I believe.

Sonic Team are now completely whoring out Sonic and are nothing more than a sweat-shop (to quote many blogs).

It's such a shame... but I really think they should release Sonic 3 & Knuckles on XBLA and then kill Sonic off.

I agree. I was so excited about Sonic Adventure, the second I heard Sonic's voice I felt like someone had rammed a fist of fire right up my ass. :bedsex:

I know, I like that Zelda's and Mario don't really talk. Nintendo has it right.

I turn off the voices in Sonic Adventure.

Nights shouldn't talk. Why must everything be like a movie?

What the...? Mario talks, albeit in broken sentences. He's mildly retarded, I guess. Must be all those mushrooms he eats.

It's not fullout sentences enough to be considered real talking though.

The only game I heard Mario actually trying to talk was in Mario & Luigi Partners in time for DS, where he talked kinda like this:

But yeah, Zelda's, Mario's and NiGHTS are better off without speech.

    Mario says the following:

    Waahaaa!
    Woarhhh!
    It's-a me, Mario!
    OK, Let's-a go!
    Here we go!
    Tee-hee!
    Mama mia!

Hopefully Nintendo won't make up a dramatic storyline using that script anytime soon!

Let's face it, when it comes to most of these Japanese games there should be no talking what-so-ever! I get so frustrated when my son is playing a DS title and he's like 'what does this say' and you explain it, and he looks at you as if you are lying 'yeah, but Dad what does it mean?' - Son, it's nonsense, just play the game.

The worst so far was Super Paper Mario on the Wii... God, I almost gave up the will to live it just blethered on and on. It took ages to actually start the game and 2 out of 3 of my kids had walked away lol. Impatient!

There should always be a 'fast forward' or 'skip' or even better 'no talking please' option on these titles. In fact I shall now have to see whether such an option existed and we just missed it as it made SPM totally unplayable for the youngest kid and he loves Mario.
