I've just seen a photo of the horrible glossy display of the 3DS: http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Nintendos-3DS-kommt-im-Maerz-nach-Europa-1172226.html I really hate those glare displays. They only look good in a dark room. If you want to use it outdoors or in the train you either see your face or you have to raise the back-light to the maximum level - which is not good for your eyes indeed. I would be happy if Nintendo would focus more on usability instead of a good look. non-glare displays can deliver a colorful and crisp picture as well.
Glare is shit. Which is why I never fancied Plasma screens. This insistence to keep manufacturing glary displays is beyond baffling. Glad the 3DS doesn't interest me compared to its predecessor.
Glare is only manufactured because PEOPLE LOVE SHINY THINGS and it's the greatest gift to manufacturers who want to sell product...
Some anti-glare coatings are worse than the glare itself. I typically do this cool thing where I put my display in a location that doesn't get direct light shining right onto it myself. A difficult concept to grasp but once you grasp it you'll be amazed you didn't think of it first! Though in a portable this is somewhat hard to do and a big reason I didn't get a GBA.
I got the GBA launch day and I gotta say that things was impossible to play outside anywhere. Looked awful, even worse than the Gameboy color. Also, I hope this 3DS glare isn't too bad. That picture makes the screen brightness look likes its turned all the way down.
Why do you need a PS3? I play mine more than my xbox but that's about to change now that I have a 360 Slim..if only I had some arcade games..
