You'd be best with an import converter and a $1 usa cart to piggyback for the lockout.

    sorry but WTF?!?

Anyways if you're looking to run JPN Games on the USA system then you don't need much. If you're open to the idea. you can just disassemble the system and take out the part that blocks JPN carts from working since the lock out is just plastic and not HW based. As for running PAL games on a USA system, I'm not sure about doing that (never tried).

PAL games will not run on NTSC system even with boot protection bypassed. Somehow it still knows. At least I tried Michael Owens soccer and it failed, booted but said Wrong Region screen once inside.

For the NTSC US or JAP you can use a gameshark just to bypass the physical lock.

For PAL to NTSC and NTSC to PAL you need the thing called "Passport". You can find the Passport III on PlayAsia right now.

The Gameshark and the Passport are the easyest.

    * The "piggyback" pak behind a converter I thought it was just for the early pirate paks. But not sure... =P

You can swap the PIFs with the one from the proper region, or add a switch to include both. The rest of the N64 is all-region. (there may have been some later video dacs that were NTSC only, I forget)

You cannot disable the lockout otherwise you would have no controller/mempack support, or saving, that is if it booted at all (IPL0 would be missing in that case)

When I played Michael Owens PAL on NTSC it was using Passport Plus III and did not bypass games internal region check somehow.

    Oh I see.
But exceptions are common in this type of device.

Well, I don't like soccer so I don't now if there's any difference, so you can just play Mia Hamm's instead. =D

Road to the World Cup or bust.

So, as far as I've gathered, JP and USA are have been locked physically, and UK has been locked with a chip from the former two?

I'm not a fan of soccer or soccer games but Fifa 64 & Fifa 98 on the n64 were freaking awesome.
