Don't you just need to remove the tabs to play imports?

  5. Using a Gameshark v3 you ought to be able to play Japanese imports on a US N64, and vice versa - in fact, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work on earlier Gamesharks either. But why not just open the N64 and either cut out the lockout tabs, or remove the dust shield altogether? There's almost no risk, unless you're trying to use a chainsaw to remove the tabs while the unit is assembled, plugged in, and running. Cutting the tabs is guaranteed to work, while I'm not sure what sort of compatability you'll get with a Gameshark.

And if you want to play PAL games on an NTSC system, you'll definately need a Passport III or similar import converter.
