Well, thats one way to avoid BluRay (and subsequently make it obsolete). Pity... I was hoping MS would hop on the holographic storage bandwagon.
Nintendo is planning to - at some point and per the wishes of Shigeru in an interview- explore and maybe implement holographic video gaming into a future console. Holographic display techniques and software consume large amounts of memory, both on the portable medium as well as RAM. In the light of the above, I think it's a small step in the right direction.
I can't imagine that format being easy to pirate, that's good for Nintendo. Keep the thieving b******s at bay.
strictly speaking, format is not an issue anymore. There are blu-ray recorders, but you can't pirate PS3 games for other reasons, for example. With memory encryption and the experience gained in this particular generation, I think crackers might have to rethink their approaches, especially considering the firmware updates that keep the console up to date with the latest security features.
Yeah, it looks for the time being that in order to play pirated games, you will have to comprimise some of the core functionality of your console (online play) in order to prevent installation of patches. But you never know, there's always a way around anything.
