It's not the ROM we already have. The ROM we have has debug features active. ROM patches polished up these details for us but Nintendo shouldn't be using those or the fan translation for this. We've heard many times that the game was indeed finished so the ROM should exist. What we got was a nearly complete version, but it wasn't what the retail release would have been. In theory what comes out on the SNES Classic should be what the retail version would have been. How different and what exactly will those differences be is anyone's guess. Certainly the debug features won't be there and bugs that hackers fixed in the patches should hopefully be fixed in this version as well.

Although since this is being developed most likely by a contracted 3rd party who knows. Pretty sure Nintendo didn't develop the NES Classic and neither will they be behind this.

I noticed this video, which has an english version on show with a more animated map screen. Timing doesn't really match up, but it does offer a different look than what we have in the rom available

    Starts at 30:49

It's probably the final version of the game. Supposedly the one online isn't finished. I don't think they changed anything; the game was already finished. This was mentioned in the other SNES Classic thread - I don't know why there are 2 of them.

I hope someone finds a way to get the ROM. Knowing how good people are at hacking things, it probably won't take long.

That's a very different map screen and I think other scenes seemed significantly different as well. Makes me wonder which version is newer and how much older the older version is than the newer one. I would think the version in the video here is of a later version, and if so there were substantial changes. Perhaps the game was more polished/even better than what leaked onto the internet.

Seeing that does make me more excited to see what comes out.

Edit: Apparently Dylan Cuthbert whom worked on Star Fox 2 in an interview confirmed that the Star Fox 2 version online is incomplete and missing things. Supposedly the final version is "far superior". Can't wait to see it.

Comparing the video from Winter CES 95' the intro is different with the Nintendo Presents logos, in our prototype being just Nintendo. The sound effect of the laser beam destroying the ship is different. The sequence before the title screen is different just showing the "Great Fox" ship warping off into the distance where as in our prototype you see two ships fly into it first before doing that. The portraits of all the characters are redrawn/totally different. The menu shows Battle Mode returning from the much older prototype. The beginning game sequence of Andross taunting you is totally different. In our proto you see the two Space Cruisers warping off. In the CES 95' version you see his Space Station Base and fighters. It also looks like it is a longer sequence time wise. Then as previously mentioned the map screen is wildly different making our proto's version look very plain and boring. When the player gets into the game he appears to have a special weapon I don't recall seeing in the proto but I can't be sure. Also the "Record" option didn't show up in the CES footage, although maybe it wouldn't if there were no save data, or maybe they scrapped that.

It's fantastic how the NES classic had plenty of pre-orders but had limited supply. Now that the SNES classic ran out of pre-orders pretty much everywhere online in the first few hours it was out, maybe the supply will be plenty this time around? (99.999999999999999999999998% chance it won't happen, but I can dream.)

I was lucky enough to get one of the Classics before they went stupid prices on eBay of all places. cost me £10 more than the actual retail price with free shipping so wasn't a bad deal at all. It was actually the Famicom Mini that ended up costing me a ridiculous amount, because Parcelforce decided to hold it in customs and charge me a crazy amount just to hold it, let alone the Customs charges which were only £14.

I hope this time round I can get one of the US SNES Classics, without getting stung again on shipping and customs charges. already got 2 Pre-orders for the UK version, and obviously only need 1, so maybe once I get them someone in the US with a spare one would be willing to do a straight swap?

edit: I love the design on the US Snes controllers, far better than the UK and Jap ones, and really makes me wonder why they didn't use the concave buttons on the UK one, seeing as it was the last one to be released, but my god is the US Snes itself ugly. Funnily enough the US one was my first SNES, won it in a competition in ZERO magazine, before the UK one had launched. Only 3 games I ever had for it were Super Mario World, Mario Kart and Castlevania, and thanks to NTSC vs PAL being a significant issue back then, only ever played them in black and White. Didn't even see a SNES game in colour until about 1995 when I visited Australia and spent most of my holiday playing SF2 and Mario Kart with my cousin.
