Do you reckon these are the same???? http://www.nickknows.com/description.php?id=223&name=Buffalo-WLI-U2-KG54-AI-Wireless-G-USB-2-0-Adapter http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BVAPFI/qid=1136469113/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/202-3953104-9885452 Could you forsee any problems using the Buffalo one instead?
That's interesting. Does this mean that the Nintendo unit is a general-purpose wireless router as well? Could devices other than the DS use it?
You should be able to use the ds with any wifi router, even the usb ones. I havent tried yet, since mine works on an aple base station.
It won't work with most of the USB dongles except the Nintendo one. If you do get a USB dongle it MUST be able to simulate being an AP, thus not limiting to P2P networks. The buffalo and Nintendo dongles are probably the same hardware wise but the software will be different and possibly not compatible. The dongle is probably the easiest way to connect to nintendo wi-fi, as once you have the drivers installed you just need to tell the DS to look for a Nintendo Dongle. You shouldn't be able to connect any other devices to the Nintendo dongle, as the drivers should be restricting it to DS's Finally, the routers nintendo are using for their public AP's are almost certainly off the shelf hardware, possibly with a modified firmware. For example, over here the Ds works with any Bt Openzone network, which normally charges for internet browsing but is free with a DS - so yes other devices can connect to it but not for free - this is probably implemented in a custom firmware.
