Do i have to have a passme or something similar to that to play homebrews (hexen and heretic) on nintendo DS(bought in july of 2005) what about a DS lite (bought the day it came out)? Also, is anybody working on a DOOM or Ocarina of time port for the DS? that would be firggin sweet!
Homebrew DS games: yes. Homebrew GBA games: no. Note, you will need a Passme 2 style device if your DS is a Lite or if it is a newer version of the original.
That, or you could flash the BIOS. It's slightly risky to do so but since you are out of guarantee it might be worthwhile. After that you don't need a Passme2 or similar to run homebrew anymore, just the M3 adapter/flash cart.
I was in Best Buy today, and they sell the Max Media Dock for the DS. (They had the CF one and the hard drive one) You can run homebrew using the Dock (and the included passme type cart). The Max Media Dock is very easy to use.
flashing procedure The BIOS flashing is actually pretty mature, i would not say its high risk. Worked for me just fine as for everyone else i know. best tubo
Absolutely....not! The nintendo DS has 3 bios : one for Arm7 (protected, which contains the decryption code), one for ARM9 (not protected), and one for the GBA. They can't be overwritten. And you have the Firmware, with the warning screen, the music, pictochat, the config screen, etc... This is what is flashed. http://www.bottledlight.com/ds/index.php/Main/Firmware http://www.bottledlight.com/ds/index.php/Main/BIOS
