I've already mentioned in another threat that I'm probably going to be getting a second-hand Japanese DS later today, but there are a few questions I need answering that haven't been asked at the usual places like GameFAQs - hopefully someone here at the Assembler board can help me out with these: 1. Is it possible to charge an imported DS using a UK power supply with the plug included? (I presume the answer to this is a "yes," since the previous owner I am buying from lives on my street. Then again, it's better to be safe than sorry...) 2. I know that the Japanese system has full English text support, but will it be able to communicate with PAL systems? I'd hate to miss out on such a brilliant feature as Pictochat, just because my friends have different region units to me! 3. How bad is the language barrier for games like Kimi No Tame Nara Shineru, Nintendogs, Puyo Puyo Fever or the new Advance Wars? Obviously the Dreamcast version of Puyo Puyo Fever came with a translation option, though what about the other three? I have seen these for sale at rather low prices (£10-15 each) and might get them now instead of waiting for their official European releases. (Yes, I'm fully aware that Project Rub is already out over here - and everywhere else, for that matter. In my opinion, its just that the original title is so much better, and I doubt they'll keep the upcoming sequel's Japanese moniker either.)
1. You'll need a stepdown, or a GBASP Power Supply. I don't think the DS power supply is 100-240V 2. Pretty Sure Yes, Although a US game won't always talk to a PAL or JP game, and vice versa. Metroid Prime Echoes Demo US won't communicate with the PAL vers. 3. Not sure on this one, But I think Puyo Puyo Fever will play in english if your system is set to it,
Kimi No Tame Nara Shineru has no language barrier as it has an option to turn every thing into english. Nintendogs has a lot of text so i have been told. puyo puyo fever has a full english option if i remember correctly. You can use either a uk ds charger or a gba sp charger as both work on a japanese ds. I personally use my uk gba sp power adapter to charge my jpn ds. You can set the menu language on a jpn ds to english so theres no problem with using pictochat with other uk ds's also all games that have single cart multiplayer will work but like the steadster already said if your both playing the same game but one has a jpn copy & one a us/uk copy then they probably wont work together in multiplayer.
I finally got my DS last night, and to be honest the only thing I've been able to find out for certain is that the plug it came with seems to work fine. However, there hasn't been anyone to communicate with in Pictochat, though based on what you've said I can't see this being a problem. If only games of the same region can link in multiplayer match then I'll probably end up just buying UK versions, even though I'll still obviously import any titles that aren't available over here. Thanks for all your help!
Yup I use my GBA-SP charger and works fine even though mine is a US machine How much cheaper is the 2nd hand Japanese system over a UK one? I wasn`t aware of any differences apart from language....but again mine is a US one
Mine again is US but I have pictochatted with UK machines and also multi Mario sessions with a UK machine/game :smt045
My local GameStation is currently selling a second-hand DS along with any pre-owned title from their "£19.99 or less" range for just £84.99, but I got my imported DS for just £40 from a friend. Thanks to this bargain, I can spend that £45 gap on building my collection - Project Rub, here I come!
Project Rub? Is that Feel the Magic? You will be able to play wirelessly with others as long as the games are from the same region.
