Any sign of the DS being cracked open for homebrew work? I've heard rumors that DS programs could possibly be stored on and executed from a normal GBA flash cartridge, but have yet to see any concrete signs of it. I know it is still fairly new, but I'm just really excited about the possibilities of hardware like this - actually makes me want to dabble around with programming.
Is that possible, considering the DS card slot is on the other side? Are they interconnected in a compatible way? Or does the DS see one as a DS slot and the other as a GBA emulator slot?
Well, it's definately not just a GBA emulator slot, as there has apparently been talk of extra peripherals being planned specifically for the DS that use the GBA port. Apparently, the GBA port wasn't included just for the backwards compatability, Nintendo designed it as more of a general-purpose expansion port (as they have included in some form or another on every system) than just for GBA compatability. I've even read stories of people inserting certain GBA or GBC (I can't quite remember) carts and have the DS pop up a little dialogue asking about an official rumble pack or something like that. Anyways, there's been some speculation that with the general-purpose, expansion nature of Slot 2 (GBA), that there might be ways to run DS code from a GBA flash cart, possibly as even as easily as it is to run GBA homebrew code. But there aren't any free tools built yet, so we must wait. :smt009
