I'm looking for a savegame backup system for the Nintendo DS. I don't have a supercard or something like that. I'd like to backup and restore the savegames of original Nintendo DS carts. I remember the MPXChanger was able to dump the savegame of a Game Boy cartridge. Is there any similar hardware or cable available for the Nintendo DS?
Forget the action replay duo its a buggy pile of shit slow & fiddly to use & it wont work with all games, stuff like pokemon diamond/pearl animal crossing & a handful of others wont work. What you need is this http://www.hkems.com/product/nintendo/NDS Adaptor.htm No messing its fast it works with every game out there, i have used it on 80+ games & have yet to find one it wont save & restore to. You can find them on ebay pretty cheaply.
Just copy the save files from the MicroSD to the HDD. Wait a minute, you are not... using... a... copi....... h:
Damn! That thing is awesome! But what all does it let you save from the cart...? Are they only advertising this device for saves when it could do something else?
As I made negative experiences with the actual generation of the Action Replay for various systems, I decided to buy the EMS adaptor. Thanks for the hint.
It comes with a program that goes on your pc, its programmed only to extract & restore save files from original carts. In theory someone could write a program that made it extract more than the saves maybe but i dont know how the adapter is made, so it's only a guess. & yes it's very good, i haven't had any problems with it unlike AR which would refuse to connect to my pc half the time.
Does the device work with flash saves too? EMS doesn't mention that... I think flash is mapped to the same address space as the game ROM. Really it wouldn't be any inconvenience for them to make a complete interface capable of game dumping since there are so few signals, in fact so few that you could actually just wire a DS cart to your parallel port without giving up any functionality.
Yes i have done that before, used .sav files from my supercard ds one & it worked ok when restored to the original cart.
Blaze has also made one as far as I remember.... Xploder something, actually I may have one somewhere, hmmm
