well, gamespot said that it was official.. :smt1069

well, the snes version sold less than the genesis one only because the game wasn't cencored . i don't care about the fact that 4:1 of the 16-bit era that loved mortal combat where violence obseded is to buy a version that play very badly bad look like shit. i personally don't care if a version have more blood in it , i really don't care , it doesn't make me happy or something. i just care about gameplay. did you ever tried to play doom 32x with a 3-buttons pad? it play really bad, i've buyed a 6-button pad only for this game at the beginning! i know that the dreamcast have good games and that games don't need 23 buttons to be good , i know, and i know that the dreamcast was perfectly made for his time , but if the dreamcast whanted to survive , it needed to have another joystick.
dreamcast could't have ports of good games that are already on every consoles , because the game just couldn't fit in the dreamcast paddle. less games say less sales, less sales say less games. the dramcast could handle what the ps2 can do , it could for the power , but for the controls ... i don't know why sega didn't tried to see a bit in the future of games , did he only tried to survive in the present? don't car what will happen 3 years after?

i know the dreamcast didn't failed only because of is controller , not at all... the piratage and the era between cd and dvd didn't helped the cause, but we must admit that sega didn't really think about the future and only on the moment with is controller (controller that i love btw)

well, there was already games that showed the future of video gaming before the dc. just look at golden eye and perfectdark , two big games. they didn't used two joystick sure, but just try to convert perfect dark on a dreamcast controller, you can't really do it. oh, sure you could , with taking the joystick to walk. A , B , X and Y to look , R to fire , left to reload and the paddle to change weapons , that could be possible but a bit strange to play don't you think?

like i've said earlier , dreamcast didn't needed 2 thumsticks, but if it whanted to survive,(because im sure it could, it have THE POWER OF A PS2!) sega needed to see in the future. to anticipate this, just like they needed to anticipate games needing more than 2 buttions in the 16-bit era.

i love the dramcast you know? but nothing is perfect, and you msut admit it. ;-)

am i the only one to think that the game cube controller is the most convortable controller ever? oh , yeah, sure the paddle is a bit small, but its still confortable. the controller is shit for fighting games , like soulcaliber 2 demonstrated. but it's really well made for games like zelda and mario. the only thing i would change is the cross! hell, we can't touch one of the direction whithout hitting all the others!

I'd answer in French so I could get through to you as you clearly missed what I was saying completely, but I can't be bothered writingall that over again en Francais just to get through to you what I was saying. Perhaps I went over your head.

Suffice it to say you're only contradicting yourself and not comprehending a single point I made.

I like the GC pad, except of course for the Directional pad in the very few games that use it. But yes, The pad is pretty shit for fighters, but then again, so is every other current gen pad.

And even though I'm going to probably get drawn into this big arguement, surely if your a fighter fan on the dreamcast and you don't like the pad you'd just buy the official arcade stick?? I'm sure that's what most hardcore fighter fans would do with most systems...Just a thought...

Precisely my point. You will NEVER find a standard controller that automatically suits ALL genres. There's a reason there are special controllers and third/1st-party alternatives, especially for fighters. Well, excepting the N64, which didn't have a single fighter worth making a fighter pad/stick for and not a single 2d fighter to speak of (SSBM not really counting).

You've edited your post now but there was no 'big argument ' at all. It's called discussion. ^_^

    Edit : LOL Steadster ^_^

i understand what you say , but there's a difference between understanding and having the same opinion.

oh, i contradict myself ? where do i've made this...?

that's your opinions, not mine you know?

Guys, please. If you are going to try to set a point please base it on real facts and not your opinion.

Err????? I think that you'll find that the 32X was no where near the power of a Saturn. that's a fact. True the 32X never really reached it's true potential but it could never pull off some of the stuff a Saturn could. Even a PlayStation couldn't handle some of the 2D Stuff a Saturn could churn out.

:smt009 yet again something based of personal preference and not facts. If this was the case then why did it sell so well in the first place? People are fussy. I didn't like the Dreamcast pad at first as far as fighting games went but it was fine for everything else. That's why they made the arcade stick and the ASCII Fighting pad. There is nothing at all wring with the Dreamcast pad. The need for two joysticks is also a ridicules claim. How many games use two joysticks in the arcade apart from Virtual On and that digger game by Taito? .......................... That's right, none. What percentage of PlayStation games use both analogue sticks in a truly useful way? No more than 20% I'm willing to bet.

i don't say this by watching games that where released on the 32x, i say this watching all those tech demo runing on real the real 32x power. its can beat some psx games you know? the saturn is still better than the 32x , but that's not a big deal , mainly because sega released the saturn one year after the 32x ( worse, in japn the 32x was released after the saturn!!)

the atrun is better than the 32x , i can't argue on this.. but the step wasn't really big compared to other systems .

well, ill corect myself: the dremcast didn't really failed , but the dramcast could have survived longer. let's forget the fact that the dreamcast died because of pirating. let's say that the system is still here , on the market , rivalising with the xbox , game cube and ps2 (it really could rivalize in therm of power !) . now, you are a video game compagny that is planing to release hum.... let's say timesplitter 2 on every consoles, dreamcast inclued. how could you make it playable? you couldn't really to say the truth. so you scrap the idea to make timesplitters 2 on dreamcast because of those problems. nwo imagine that allot of compagny forget the dramcast because of this problem. and now imagine the kid tha whant a next-gen console , wich will he take? ( i would personally take the dramcast , but that's only me :-D ) maybe he will choose the dramcast , because of good games like sonic heroes ( hey! that would happen if..) but he would miss all those games that are multiconsoles (now , its rare to see compagny that make games for only one console , compagnies would certainly forgot the dreamcast to make games more complex in therm of ''direct gameplay'' .

    that's how the market goes...

anyway, what was the first subject of this thread already? :smt043

  11. For FPS the Dreamcast was capable of using the Keyboard&Mouse combo some games like Outtrigger and Quake Arena used this method (or the pad alone :smt009 ), but what I don´t understand is, the Dreamcast is essentially a arcade base system then why not make a controller more arcade friendly like the SS? A pad so big for only 4 face buttons and two triggers... even Capcom changed the button layout for Marvel vs Capcom 2 because of DC and it was a beat em up! Or games using the d-pad to do more actions other than moving.
The pad was NOT the main reason but it contribute a variable small fraction, overall SEGA dig their own grave from the start.

I think the whole "Two analogue sticks neeced" thing is more personal prefernce than anything. I mean, I can't stand playing ANY FPS game on a console.....They are just unplayable to me without a keyboard and mouse ^_^

But I know firends who can only play FPS games on a console....they moan there are too many keys on a keyboard or whatever.

In that case....couldn't you play an FPS on the 'cast just by using the Analogue stick of the DC controller for aiming....then use the buttons on the right for the movement (Pseudo-cross), use the right trigger as fire and the left tirgger as reload (or alternate fire or something) then use the actualy Cross for weapon changing? Seems to me that covers your Timesplitters 2 multiformat arguement ^_^

    Oh please...

Piracy was only a contributing factor to Sega's demise. You can blame it on the pirates all you want but Sega was in bad shape before they released the DC and it would have taken a miracle to save them either way.

The DC would have had the plug pulled on it by now anyways if it wasn't killed off so early meaning it would NOT be a contender today. Joe Sixpack wants to play this years Madden with the nicest looking graphics he can get and the DC does not offer that. It does not rivalize the Xbox and GC in power, MAYBE the PS2 (but I'd love to see anyone pull off something like Killzone or GT4 on the DC ;-) )

DC would be dead now anyway. Back when it had the best graphics on the market, it still failed to win market share. This was due to a number of external reasons: bad timing (PS2 release on the horizon), bad market awareness (limited/poorly targetted advertising), bad customer opinions (Saturn still hurt like hell), and bad market share (PSX was king).
It was not a bad product, though - the DC was everything it should have been and a lot more. Pad concerns only come in once you've bought the console... and people didn't buy it, that was the problem ^_^

I really think it was marketting that killed them. They Had the killer titles, They had a damn good pricepoint, but they just didnt advertise them enough....all in my opinion obviously, but perhaps sega should have spent less money sponsoring arsenal, and more on Tv ad's for the sort of games a casual-ish gamer would want - Resident Evil, Sonic, A few Football/American Football Ad's. I think that would have helped them sell the system. that and compatibility with the playstation :smt043

Edit - The comment about the DC being dead by now - It probably would be, but had sega played their cards differently we might be having a new console coming out soon Rather than "Big announcements" like publishing of the matrix game...
