    Hey guys,

So I recently purchased a lot of 5 nintendo DSI which all power on but display nothing (no display, sound etc) though the power light comes on. I have been thinking of what the fix is because I still haven't received them but i'm preparing a list of things to check once i do get them. What do you guys think I should check for? Could it be blown fuses or no? Any suggestion is welcome! thank you all!

I came across a lot of DS Lite, only a few were dead. Maybe it's different with the DSi.

Blown fuses result generally to not power on or battery not charing.

If it displays a quick white flash when power on then there's hope (it means there's something wrong in the checkup boot of the console).
    It could be stuff like:

    - Wifi module unplugged (common issue) or dead (rare).
    - LCDs damaged (like the ribbon to upper screen, VERY common issue on DS Lite, like 99% after hitting the ground)

or the infamous black screen of the death (from dead bios or dead arm, very rare, but it happens).

So you are saying the DSI are completely dead? All 5 possibly? What other issues could cause a power up but no display on screen? If all 5 are totally dead, that would suck! That would be a waste of money :(

The seller specifically said they power up but don't display anything on the screen.

As I said, the DSi may be different from the DS lite. I don't have much experience with DSi (only replace L/R button or scratched touchscreen). I had a lot more with the DS Lite.
The behaviour when something wrong could be different.
From a quick search you'll see there's a multiple of "Black Screen" and differents resolution. Sometimes it's just the lower screen to change or replug.

But yes, it's still a probability. The consoles could have been bricked after an update for exemple.

First thing I would do is strip them down and reassemble them, loose ribbon cables can cause various issues.....not really fixed any DSi's but I would say 5 failed FW updates would be very unlikely.....unless the seller has bought a lot more and your left with the unfixables

and if it's anything like the 3ds a unseated wifi module can cause a black screen with nothing else......infact I remember now I did fix a dsi for a friend that was just a black screen and unplugging the wifi and putting it back in fixed it

Ok just to update the thread, i got the 5 dsi!

So i was able to fix two of them and i need your help with the other 3.

So 2/3 dsi boot up perfectly fine but whenever i try to launch an application , it gives me "an error has occurred blah blab blah" and ive tried replacing wifi module and everything but it still doesnt work ( is there a ic chip i can replace to fix the issue?)i really wanna get these two working and i wanna try everything possible before giving up on them! Even if it means i have to try out new things, im willing to do so!

The third one turns on but stays at a blue light and nothin displays(from what i can tell, has some serious corrosion on traces and some bad signs of water damage... Dont really care if i fix this)

    Thanks for all the help!

    - Try to update the firmware,
    - Try to reset to default settings (holding down x,y,a,b,L,R,start, select, and power together or something like that, you will loose everything on the DSi),
    - If it still not working, try to make them boot with the Wi-fi module of one of the 2 others which are working. If it works, it means the wifi module has to be changed.

Are you using a game or a linker? Some linkers won't work with recent firmeware.

try look in the card slot and see if any of the pins are bent/snapped....or is it doing it with pre-installed apps too?

ok just had a little look online, and it looks like it might be the wifi boards need replacing.....see if the board from the non-booting dsi will work in one of the 2 that boot

Thank you guys for your replies!
Anyhow, I googled the issue before hand and saw that fixing the problem was replacing the wifi board. I thought "ok , not hard at all" . So I tried another one of the wifi boards (I tested and IT WAS WORKING) and same problem happened . It booted up and whatever app I tried to open (Camera, Settings etc.) , it would say "Error has occurred blah". I looked a little closer at the board and saw that it could have possibly been water damaged (had corrosion) so I decided to get my isopropyl alcohol and wipe the whole board with it. After a few more reboots of it not working, something really weird happened!I had everything installed and I kept rebooting it and trying to access the camera app and settings app and on this one boot, it loaded the camera app! Take note, it loaded to a white screen first and after a quite a long time of being on the white screen, the camera app loaded! I was able to view pictures and such! So I decided to restart and load settings app however it just showed this white screen and now it wasn't loading settings. I turned it off and on again and we were back at the beginning, kept giving the same "An error has occurred..". I have been trying to boot to the settings ever since and no luck. Same black screen with "an error has occurred". I have hope in fixing it but its been frustrating me because I can't recreate that one moment that happened out of the blue. I dont know what happened but I'm hoping someone can help me!

Ps. All of this happened for one of the two dsi! The other one I haven't played around with until i get this one working.
I'm truly desperate to get it to work so if you guys have any ideas, just let me know. At the end, if it doesn't get fixed , it's probably going in the garbage or used for parts.

Maybe try putting a bit of extra pressure on the wifi board, sounds like it could be either dirty contacts or a loose connection where the wifi board plugs in....maybe try plugging it and unplugging it a bunch of times to hopefully clean them up a Lil bit

Ya it is a dodgy wifi socket on the board. I'm quite annoyed right now! I decided to desolder the wifi socket off of the motherboard only to find out there is no replacements online. I kept looking for Dsi wifi socket and all i found was NDSL wifi sockets :( I'm so upset because the board is technically useless now without having the wifi socket installed. It def was the wifi socket as the wireless light would blink then suddenly stop and kept turning on and off.

Thanks for the offer but i am just not skilled enough to remove the part without burning the plastic. (Already tried on a spare dsi board and burned plastic and made the part useless) If you can desolder the wifi port, backlight, and camera port without damaging them, then ill be interested to talk out something. :)

Ha, you can see why I steadfastly refused to start offering DS/DSi repair services.
