Nintendo did some "early" releases of the DS in Europe on their "stars catalogue" with a T-Shirt, Mario 64, Metroid demo and Wario Ware demo. Turns out, all the games are US versions, so are totally incompatible with all the "real" European games when it comes to multiplayer.

Well done to Nintendo, charge people more for an "early" release, but still manage to kick them in the face somehow.

Nintendo has been screwing up and screwing people over for quite some time now. So this does not shock me at all.

    Tis sad.

Man, Nintendo Europe or at least the UK section have been sad loosers since the mid 90's when there's stuff was distributed by T.H.E. Nintendo UK are pathetic.

Yeah, I think we had to wait until like 2000 or 2001 to see an official release of FFVI, and it was on the wrong console!

You got MArio Controllers? Dammit >_< I have almost 5000 stars sitting in my STARS bank doing nothing.

And yeah, I found out about the DS incompatability at the weekend when my friends just got their DSs :(

Fortunatley Mario64 has the Single-cart multiplayer(yay) but the Metroid demo needs multiple carts (boo).

And DS games are £35 in a lot of places....£30 in others.....jeez :smt022 I'm never going to be able to afford Project Rub......and I think I may have to contact GSL Heavy Industries when Castlevania DS is coming out in america....

To be fair Yakumo, Nintendo originally had their stuff distributed in the UK by CGL, then by Mattel. After that, they took it back for a while themselves, then gave the distribution rights to THE. There WAS no Nintendo UK for most of the 90s. Nintendo Europe, yes.... but THE handled just about everything in the UK.

Nintendo obviously got pissed off with them, and took matters back into their own hands. Personally, I'd say they've done a better job since.

Yeah, this is unfortunate, though. What parts of Europe were they released in, Tach?

There were 3000 units in the UK, and 3000 shared between the rest of the European language stars catalogues.

Mario controllers? Christ, the best we have had in ages is the shit NOM have had left over, or things like old style GBA cases from the Vimto Pokemon tour in 2003.

Yeah that one was a long time ago, now they don't bother with "real" stuff as too many people have too many stars. I wish I never registered my stars, then I could get someone in one of the other European stars catalogues to use my points to get something decent.

    What this?

Why are alternate regions not compatible for multi player??

    That's just stupid.

Actually they only warned us that the Metroid demo would not be compatible with the final retail version of Metroid DS, not that the PAL and US demos would not be compatible. Plus, they never stated anywhere it was the US Mario64DS.

That would kinda explain why I've seen the "Mattel Version" NES consoles I've seen in car boot sales. But why's there a "Mattel Version" and "NES Version"? Where they just Mattel Versions when Mattel were selling them or what? They look identical besides that one line of text under the Nintendo logo on the front...

This may explain why a freind of mine who manages a local game store had a MARIO64 DS
cart as a trade in on the day of release. All uk packaging but no PEGI age rating and a US cart!!!!
