http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=10371 It's part of a whole series of arcade games based on Famicom hardware. I'm surprised we didn't think of the VS. Series...
I've played SMB at the arcade, and it wasn't Playchoice 10. I didn't open up the cab to see what it was, b/c I was like 12 years old.
If it is a VS cabinet then why do the other two have Gradius and Snow Brothers (or Ice Pick or something like that) in them? Where they released as VS arcade boards too? I'll take a picture of the other two when I'm next down at the station in a weeks time because I7m on holiday now. Yakumo
i belive there was a gradius one, still the vs cabinets used 2 screens in which the list of games was at the top as well as instructions for current game, id imagine thered be a amount of coins entered at the bottom.
I'm pretty sure you're thinking about Playchoice there, Sayin. I don't think VS system has a second screen. And yes, there was a Gradius VS game...I don't know about the other one though.
ah thats rightm but wasnt the vs dual screen in some situations? I do know some were a doulbe cabinate combine since i remember them being at some arcades when i was a wee one.
The VS Dualsystem does have two screens, but neither screen is used to display instructions, only the Playchoice does that. Usually when you stumble upon these machines in the open they are running two VS Unisystem games, one on each screen. There are several Dualsystem-specific games which take advantage of both screens however, such as VS Tennis and Wrecking Crew (which is completely different from the Famicom version). There is a VS Gradius, although I've never heard of a VS Snow Brothers. Maybe you mean Ice Climber, in which case yes, there is a VS version of that as well.
I don't think Gradius is a vs board. Just straight up Gradius. Runs about 200,000 yen if you can find one. EDIT: Speaking only of Japanese boards.
According to MAME, on the VS system there's: Atari RBI Baseball Balloon Fight Baseball Battle City Castlevania Clu Clu Land Dr. Mario Duck Hunt Excitebike (this was also ported to the FDS) Gradius Gumshoe Hogan's Alley Ice Climber Ice Climber Dual Mach Rider (Endurance Course) Mach Rider (Fighting Course) Mahjongg Mighty Bomb Jack Ninja Jajamaru-Kun Pinball Platoon Raid on Bungeling Bay Slalom Soccer Star Luster Stroke and Match Golf Super Mario Bros. (sorry, forgot about the VS when I said it didn't exist before!) Super SkyKid Tennis Tetris The Goonies T.K.O. Boxing Top Gun Wrecking Crew OK, that's quite a lot...
yakumo is there any chance you can ask one of the arcade operators what type of hardware it is using?
whoops forgot to check, i find it funny that a sega arcade would have an unoffical arcade hack of an old nintendo system, since i know they are very strict about copies or bootlegs of stuff once it comes to their attention.
Actually Sega are quite lazy when it comes to bootlegs compared to other companies. By the way I saw a very interesting SNK bootleg today in an ibdi arcade. I'll make a new thread about it. Yakumo
