iQue is a company in China that manufactures Nintendo products, but modifies them to comply with strick Chinese goverment regulations. iQue first began with the iQue Player, a cut-down N64 which required users to bring a single cart to a shop where they had to pay to reprogram it with a game. Meaning that if you were to reprogram your cartridge from one game to another, then you'd have to pay to download the first game again, loosing the replay value of the iQue player. iQue had difficulties with manufacturing the 3DS at first, after a not-so-successful sale of the iQue DS and the iQue DSi. Most consoles were imported from the "grey-market" (consoles originated from Japan, America or Hong Kong) Unlike Nintendo versions of the DS and DS Lite, the iQue could only play chinese regioned games, and was thus region locked. This makes no effect on the 3DS as since the DSi's release, Nintendo has been region locking it's products. Only 6 games were released in the cartridge format for the Lite and original and only 3 out of 6 games are playable on a normal DS/DSi, the other 3 giving the "This game can only be played in an iQue DS" message whilst on the 3DS, 5 out of the 6 games are playable. This is because the chinese consoles had more RAM, to handle the Chinese symbols that standard consoles didn't contain Here are some screenshots of the upcoming iQue 3DS. Surprisingly, it appears that there is a StreetPass feature. I have a good feeling that this is locked to Chinese-only systems, meaning no support for foreigners. As I have yet to import such a system, I shall report later Here are some QR codes for you to try out with your 3DS, thanks for reading or scrolling all the way to the bottom The official site of MK7 on the iQue 3DS is here, and you can read the manual here. You will need Google Translator! Surprisingly, the game does support worldwide multiplayer games, according to the manual, and the screenshots seem to indicate a globe, and a chinese flag. I haven't seen chinese players and I've played with American and European versions of Mario Kart 7. Strange. *EDIT* A Mario Kart Wii forum member has posted screenshots of what appear to be Chinese players. The MK7 worldwide doesn't support Chinese letters so the spaces are blank. Original forum and post link is here
Why is this on the price check form? - Edit - Moved from Price Check to Game Forum. - Edit 2 - Fun stuff. I actually have one of these but few reasons why not to buy one (other then collecting) 1. Other then MK7 & 3D Land on the system, no retail 3DS games sold in mainland china yet 2. No eShop. =P 3. Really expensive, even by Chinese standard - Edit 3 -
Whatever the case, myself I haven't seen a region crack for iQue DS roms. To find out its outcome. Though I can attest to this topic's claim more of them work on 3DS than DS Lite
Supercard is not shocking since these probably run a somewhat older 3DS FW. Are those games Taiwan or just HK, or are their releases the exact same? I know 3DS got an official release in HK but I didn't know Taiwan. I'm hoping to look into this better on my next trip to china. I got this unit through someone I know online living in china.
I'm gonna have to say Tw & Hk are mostly the same (and same region) with just either 1 version for both or two versions, one for simp and one for trad chinese. http://www.nintendo.com.hk/3ds/ http://www.nintendo.tw/3ds/index.htm
subbie, you never told me you had one of these, jeesh. I thought you were going balistic at me from the message. I'm new to the forums. Also, as I am going to get one, can you tell us from experience, does this thing have any sort of communication with the OUTSIDE world. Like can you friend people from other countires, does StreetPass work, what games does the eShop have? I would appreciate if you could upload some pictures! *EDIT* Silly me, I didn't read about it not having eShop. I assumed it did cos the DSi did. I hope there's a way of transfering content. Mind you, how did you get one in the first place, and why?
Why? You're looking at spending $300 on a device that only plays the two included games in chinese (no english) and can't do much else (system is region locked so it won't run USA/JPN software) I haven't tried but you should be able to street pass people. I do it all the time with my JPN & USA units. The units have a web browser and can receive fw updates but as you saw in my post, no eShop. I find the lack of an eShop odd since I more then expected them to distribute games digitally rather then retail. I guess since it's still kind of new (both the HK/TW launch as well) it might come at a later date. There isn't much else to snap pictures of that someone else already has. I know someone living in china who got me one. I got it to collect since it's not common and the cover is a special one for china only. It also doesn't hurt that I should be learning chinese sometime in the future when I stop being lazy and I go back to visit every few years.
I'll be picking one of these up relatively soon when I head back home. I had the iQue DS Lite and found it to be essentially the same as any other DS Lite I had. I wonder what region compatibility will be on these since the Mainland Chinese market typically receives only a dozen or so games for every system released.
If I'm not mistaken, Nintendogs was pre-installed for the iQue DSi. There is no Chinese rom dump or cart in the first place to attempt to use on DS Lite or 3DS.
If your referring to the Gateway 3DS, the possibilities are very good. They just did a video as proof they have been able to get past region locking and will even allow the 3DS to spoof region which is good for those who are past firmware 4.5. So the team with Gateway is definitely making progress..
