It's cardboard toys and projects that are augmented by the Switch. Unfortunately, mine's not working.
Nintendo went back to make toys but now in cardboard form, not bad but kids will surely destroy this fast. On the other hand, people have positive, mixed and outright negative reactions towards this, calling it gimmicky (obviously) and that they should've shown Mother 3, SSB 5 or Metroid Prime 4. I do bet that Top Hat Gaming Man will do a video fast about it ranting But, could you imagine seeing a Sega Bass Fishing game on the Switch being played with the Fishing Rod Toy-Con ? Oh and Project Giant Robot now lives as Robot Kit
You need more cardboard, some elastics, and some glitter. Then maybe it'll work Seriously though, this really brings me back to when I used to build shit out of cardboard when I was a young lad.
I think that these are super cool, but that they are going about it the wrong way, though. Rather than selling in a kit with a cartridge, they should sell the cardboard templates with a code to download the game. These could be very cost effective for Nintendo and very inexpensive for customers. Hell, something like that is an entirely different type of SKU that can be sold in new places other than the video game aisle, maybe even at the till. They could even make printable at home versions for MyNintendo rewards. However, knowing Nintendo, these will be the only two kits they ever release and will just be added to the long list of their gimmicks with great potential never realized
Are Nintendo having a laugh? The last time I paid £70 for a load of cardboard boxes, at least they contained pizza (and probably lasted longer - I suspect most kids will shred up those Labo peripherals faster than you can say scrap paper)! Saying that, I'm intrigued to see how well the piano works, as I've read it's surprisingly responsive...
My friend summed Labo up perfect, "Microsoft and Sony try and think outside the box...Nintendo just uses the box."
i too feel that kids will destroy these 'creations' quite quickly. i wonder if it will take off in japan, what with origami originating from there?
They arguably are very creative... at figuring out ways to milk their customer base. Labo would be VERY NICE if it included a way to build your own designs somehow. It could be a gateway drug for a Raspberry Pi.
Despite some cynicism, I applaud Nintendo for making these kinds of moves. Calculated risks and good for their long term viability as a company, which allows them to continue to cater for their core.
Even though it is only cardboard, Nintendo will still not keep up with demand. I can see it now, scalped ultra rare cardboard only $156.99!!
I think it's interesting as novelty but how are they going to prevent people or other companies from copying the designs? Is not like they can create some kind of card board DRM
