Hi This is a pal m82 that was recently working fine. Looking for any advice on how to troubleshoot the following issue: Please see video here: When powering on: The intro screen and instructions displays fine. It then starts cycling rapidly between games. (This also happens when game select switch is pushed) As can be seen in the video the digital counter cycles rapidly. The game (Duck Hunt) shows for a split second on the tv. It just continues like this. The current draw fluctuates by a 100mA or so as well as can be seen. CPU is good. PPU is good. Power supply is good. Put new av module in and this works fine, or else there would be no picture at all. Game select switch is good. I suspect that the ASIC is faulty or maybe the PLD. Any M82 owners out there who could advise? Thanks in advance.
(Going from memory, so please forgive any misinformation that may follow...) Have you tried populating the slots with more games to see if it stops on others? The M82 will continue to cycle through slots until it finds something it can boot. You'll want to avoid MMC3 games like Super Mario Brothers 3, as they require an IRQ mod to function properly in the M82.
I've tried a popluated a few of the slots with various pal games, oddly, duck hunt seem to be the only one that will show up briefly, but the behaviour is the same, no matter how many games you put in or in which slot.
Are there any european m82 owners out there? I need to send you the pld and asic chips to try on a working unit so I can check they are good. If so I can then eliminate this from the equation.
Wish I could help you out - NTSC here. I'm leaning toward the ASIC as being problematic as well. +1 vote for your contacting GameTech US to see if they can help you out with a replacement ASIC, etc.
