I've notice that these past two weeks a game that is number 1 in japan is on a nintendo platform, you think this could be a sign of something?

    That hell has frozen over?

  3. A mistake in the polls?

Not to be too cynical, but what's been out lately on a Nintendo platform to merit a top spot?

What gives with all these childish comments lately GSL???

I don't think the people who d te jap charts make mistakes such as these, and i you knew anything about the latest jap releases you would know that Nintendo recently released Paper mario 2,a title well worth getting t the top of the japanese charts. It is being hailed as one of the freshest and most original rpg' released in the last few years and I think it's visual style in 2d is absolutely superb.

Why don't you try staying up to date mate!

Yes, it's very good... and sold about 100,000 pieces in a day or so I believe (heard on another forum -- no proof). It's a nice change... although I wouldn't say it's that original... wasn't therer a Paper Mario on the N64?

I must say, it looks absolutely stunning. I liked the first one a little but this one just looks cool, its what the first one should have been, though I had little faith in the N64's ability to handle that. Also, my poor japanese skills proved quite useful! YAY Furigana! I actgually understood every single screen shot! How cool is that?!

It's a good game... yeah, there's some parts where it gets a bit "gotta wonder around a bit" but for the most part, it flows well. I've beat stage 3 (of 8 I believe). I'm a big fan of the 2D Illustrator type of graphics, so this was a sure thing for me.

  11. Now now Nintendomad, no need to stoop to being insulting - while my "what's hot now" radar doesn't run as deep as some and I tend to focus only on that which interests me, I honestly haven't heard of any overwhelmingly hot titles for either Gamecube or Gameboy Advance for a while now. I was slightly aware of Paper Mario 2's release, but if it plays anything like the first one, it'll probably be a lot of hype and not much substance, as I wasn't at all impressed with the original.

GaijinPunch - Yes, the original Paper Mario was released on the N64 in an attempt to possibly follow the success of the decidedly non-traditional Mario RPG on SNES, but it really didn't do as well at all.

And while I'd love to see Tales Of Symphonia at the top of a chart (maybe it is, who knows) I sortof doubt it just because there are enough people who are completely turned off by the visual stylings or, oddly enough, the voice acting :smt017 (which I think is great) and it has been given good but reasonably so-so reviews everywhere I look (I'm not sure what the hell they're smoking, but whatever...), and it just in general sounds to me like something that's not a flop but not creating massive sales either.

Point taken lads, didn't mean to be insulting though, was just saying it in gest.Like I would say in a discussion with my mates. It always sounds bad when I read it back on the net though as I suppose you can't tell what tone I say it in.

Sorry if I offended you lads.

Still I stand by Nintendo an they have had some great games recently with two big titles,Pkmin 2 and Paper Mario rpg, which is truly awesome, trust me GSL,I was the one who put alot of people on this board the way of Sin and Punishment so I don't just have nintendo fanboy foot and mouth here.

Legend of Golfer too is a fantastic golf game and If you like Tiger woods, this is a serious golf game, planty of realism, unbelievable course design too.Wicked Golf game and better than TW2004 imo. Can't reccomend this enough if you are a sports game fan,so surprised it flopped but I expect this to be very big in the west. It's the sequel to Japan pro golf on the 64dd and it betters that by a wider margin than the Grand Canyon and we know how good the 64dd game is.

On a side note,I got Decathlete sega ages today and that is really good...it has Arcade Decathlete on it,Virtua Athlete, and Winter Heat arcade on it and it really is a solid title.Well woth the budget price if you were a fan of those arcade titles.

Nintendo's next biggie in jpan is Star Fox 2 and I hope we are all looking forward to that,Starfox 64 was one of the greatest games ever and if it holds a candle to that it will be great, has 2 player co op too.

  14. I'll definately be looking forward to Starfox 2, provided it is actually like Starfox 64 and not that shite Starfox Adventures. They should have just left it titled Dinosaur Planet. :smt019

And I figured you were jesting or not completely serious by your post, that's why I didn't overreact as I can be prone to doing sometimes. It is indeed hard to tell a person's tone of voice through emails/message boards/IM, a large flaw in this otherwise excellent communication method.

I completely forgot about Pikmin 2 being released - I haven't had a chance to 'pik' up the first one yet, but the gameplay sure does sound interesting, and it is on my "must buy eventually" list.

And yes, you were totally right on Sin And Punishment, it completely rocks. :smt023 A little bit on the short side, and I was rather peeved at having to search online for a translated ending when the entire game was English voice acting, but it was a true classic. Maybe I'll take your advice and pick up Paper Mario 2 (and the original if I stumble across it) when it's released here...

Well i shoud have been more specific Greatsaintlouis on what did do well, last week it was Paper Mario 2, this week it was final fantasy 1+2 for gba. Both hit the 100,000 mark on launch day. It is amazing as nintendo has rarely sold higher then ps2 as far as software in japan, however they got number the number 1 spot in two weeks, and this is big as games in japan have rarely been reaching the 100,000 mark lately.

I sense some open-mouth kissing coming on.

  17. Ah, I wasn't aware of FF 1+2 out already, of course that would sell well. Can't wait for the release here - FF was the first Final Fantasy I ever played (Yes, I am an original fan ;-) ) and I've been too broke lately to even think about picking up Origins for FFII, so this will be a nice revisiting and a new experience, plus this new Soul Of Chaos dungeon that's supposed to be there... Anyone know when the US release date is?

Yeah I bet you have a hard on just thinking about it. :smt043 :butthead:

I agree with you on the Sin and Punishment ending GSL,it really was annoying ,still how this wasn't released in the west was an absolute farce, typical Nintendo of America.

Also what is the first Final fantasy like, and the second.I thought the Snes games were pretty poor and much preffered Secret of Mana and stuff like Zelda.I like the Shining Force series and found them a whole lot better than any FF game. The only FF games I have really enjoyed have been FF7 and FF10.They were really superb and had stories worth seeing through to the end.

  19. Well, like I said, I haven't played much of the "proper" FFII (not the US FFII, aka FFIV), but FFI was a lot of fun, and was possibly the greatest RPG on the NES (I haven't played all the Dragon Warrior games, so I can't say for sure). The plot isn't much, but it's a rather huge game as far as the things you have to do, I love the music to death, and at times can be quite hard. It's an oldskool RPG in the truest sense of the word, and I highly recommend picking it up just for the experience in whatever format suits your fancy - original NES, MSX, Japanese cell phone :smt043 , PSX Final Fantasy Origins, Wonderswan, or the upcoming GBA game. :smt023
