Here's a Laserdisc of Nintendo Power Previews version 11 (sleeve says 12, but disc says 11). There were 12 versions released I believe, with different trailers and interviews. Pretty fun, lots of cheesy "extreme" filmmaking and footage of skateboarders and roller blading.
^^ now, THIS thread put a smile on this old bastard face... :cocksure: (the LD, or the disk drive was known as a 'doomsday' machine in military circles, never was implemented as a masterkey/silo primer afaik?!) .... it goes to show, the advertisers tried a bit harder and at the same time, appeal to the 'less than smart' sporty types...classic!
Sadly no. The disc was forty bucks, with overlays and the cart it probably could've demanded $200-$300.
Its a brilliant video and really well made for its time. People were going crazy for Skateboarding and extreme sports, rollerblading etc. Its abit ridiculous but the footage is great. That Donkey Kong Country gameboy port must have been programmed by geniuses. I honestly think this video is better then all the Nintendo Directs they've done. I wish I had a time machine to go to a TRU during this time period again.
Does the Laserdisc have any obvious damage to it? The only time I've ever had actual skipping issues was with my copy of Alien 3 where there is a measurable groove carved into it in a neat circle. I'd offer to do a capture for you (I've got three different players of different makes including a Laseractive) but I'm not sure the capture hardware I have can do it justice. Plus Laserdiscs don't ship well.
I played it off a Laseractive, and it skipped badly, though I don't see any damage to the disc. I cleaned it but saw no improvement. Recommend any other players?
Could be laser rot or the disc is specifically designed to work in conjunction with a snes hooked up to a laserdisc player. I remember these video kiosks at stores and you would push a button on a panel that corresponded to the game you want to see a preview. So if you wanted to see a preview for star fox 2 (which was on one of the discs) you would just push the button that had the games logo on it and it would play the video. Also based on how some of the video outputted I wouldn't be surprised if its playing some video demos in real time on the snes streaming data from the laser disc player.
The rot seems minimal or non-existent until it just starts skipping, but I've heard about rot seeping in through the outer seam of Laserdiscs, which (if I'm remembering this right) means the outer part is read last, and that's when it skips. My Badlands Palcom LD is like this. Shame, but a badly made LD is predestined thus.
I've reuploaded the video with three fixes 1. Captured off a new LD player with an S-Video out 2. New LD player played through the entire disc with no problems, so now you get to see it from beginning to end 3. YouTube gave my old channel hell so I made a new one here: http://youtube.com/lasereactive
