As stated in the Nintendo Yesterday Financial report, the Nintendo NX isn't the only Nintendo project that they are currently working on.

After the first Wii U financial report, which was pretty bad, Nintendo has announced working on a new system, as long as smartphone applications and a project called Nintendo Quality of Life (QOL).

Thanks to some Patents, we may know more about what could be one of the QOL device (the patent is quite old). It seems to be a sleep time checking device, as stated in this patent :

"The purpose of the invention is to simplify user operations. An information processing system executes an application such as a game application or the like. The information processing system acquires user information for calculating information pertaining to user sleep and determines a state pertaining to user sleep on the basis of the acquired user information. The information processing system determines, for example, when the user has woken up and when the user has left bed. The information processing system executes a prescribed information process in the application in coordination with a state pertaining to user sleep."

It seems that Nintendo is going to release many devices allowing a better quality of life (like the Wii balance board, Wii Fit,....).

The QoL may alos be related to this news about a company working on a vitality sensor :

These QoL equipments may explain why Nintendo has recently discussed some contracts with companies producing chips for handheld devices (like smartphone, tablets,....). Indeed, these equipment

...or the Power Pad, or the Exertainment bike (edit: whoops, this one wasn't Nintendo but "Life Fitness"), or the step counter that is Pokemon Mini. And those are just the ones we know about. They've been experimenting with health stuff for a looong time.

To be honest I'm not really a big fan of all these "connected items". On the subway,I am seeing a lot of people wear smart fit watches that track steps, sleep, heartbeat and calories. In my opinion it is nothing but yet another gimmick. When I see commercials where doctors say that "walking 5000 steps a day" makes you healthy, I can't help but laugh. There are so many parameters that are not taken into account and the most important one probably is nutrition. Sure you can walk 5000 steps a day and believe that you are "healthy" ike the doctor said on TV, but if there is crappy food in your kitchen pantry and you stay the whole day in front of the computer that's not going to make a big difference in your overall health.

All the data and statistics gathered don't really make any sense if the underlying cause is not analyzed in the first place.

True, but some exercise with your burger is still better than no exercise with your burger. And numbers going visibly up or down might be motivational to some people.

Btw, I believe there's already toilets that analyze your shit - Those would help take care of the "crappy food" issue when combined with your connected fridge/oven/whereever you access your connected recipe book and shopping list. See, all you need is more connectivity!
(For the record, I'm not an "internet of things" person. I'm OK with Fitbits etc but only up to the point where they start automagically shoveling all teh datas into the allmighty cloud, that's where I draw the line.)

Oh man, I could yawn more if I wanted to at Nintendo these days. They've lost the plot. Then again as I've always said, they lost the other after the SFC when gamers were Concerned with real home consoles.

Don't forget the controller for handicaped people, and the starlight project. Nintendo seems to care about QoL since a long time. But I suppose (and all this thread is only supposition) that the devices that they are potentially making now are close to medecine devices, more serious than the exertainment bike (I own one) or the pokemon pikachu step counter haha.

In Nintendo history, we have seen them doing many things. From playcard to videogame, toys,....they even had a taxi company at some point. And they still exist thanks to all these different product. At the end of the 70's, the video game crash has caused many video game company to close. Nintendo wasn't this much reached by the crash.

Even if people don't like what Nintendo does, we can't blame this company for trying new things and reaching other markets. Us gamer, we have evolved with time, looking for more mature games, and american video game is here for that. Bit what about the younger one ? I am glad that they can still play video games without "violence".

So Nintendo trying to reach different market can't be blamed. If people don't like Nintendo, then they shouldn't bother with their systems.

I am also not into all these connected objects and the "Internet of things". Lets just see what Nintendo will release :)

That's what happens when companies begin to fail. Neo geo (snk) duct cleaning robots, pachinko machines.

Wait until Miyamoto dies, it will be sad.

If a company do many different things since the beginning, like Nintendo does, they have the ressources and the knowledges to do it again when needed. It is not like if Nintendo has just now started doing new stuffs. They try and do new stuffs since ages. With some good and bad moments, with success and unsuccess.

SNK was mainly based on arcade, not on home systems. This is the main reason they has stopped doing business.

Just look at the Nintendo financial report. Mainstream medias claims that Nintendo is near bankrupt, just because the actual home system is a total fail. But it isn't true. Medias loves when things get wrong for others, this is what they need to live. Just ask to the financial service of your company to look at the Nintendo financial results, they will tell you that most of the companies would have loved to have the same cashflow and stuffs.

I don't understand why people looks happy when a company has some difficulties. Trolling like this don't help.

And I don't get your Miyamoto thing. What is this supposed to mean ?

If you want to troll like this, just start a new thread : I blame Nintendo for whatever they do because it is so cool and trendy to do it, even if nobody is forcing me to buy any Nintendo systems.

Your comment is out of topic. The aim of this thread is to speak about the QoL, not about players frustrations. Opinion are good and interesting when they are constructive.

How is that off topic? Things like this are a sign that nintendo is what I said. I'm sorry if the truth hurts

You said nothing serious except a typical troll like a 13yo boy. You even didn't read all the comment. Nintendo does "Things like this" (as you said) since ages, so it is definetly not a sign of Nintendo's fall. Why looking for Nintendo to do the exact same thing than the others. People always complain when they have no choice. You should be glad that some companies and people tries something different ! And I am sorry but I am definetly sure that you don't own the "Truth". It is maybe the "truth" of a 34yo American, but it is probably different for anyone else.

This is not the point of this thread, arguying if Nintendo is falling or not. I have discussed about that with many people and I feel confortable when talking about that. You don't give any little interesting arg, and claiming that you own the truth about Nintendo is clearly a sign that you don't know what you are talking about and that you just act like following some american mainstream way of thinking. Now please stop trolling. If you want to talk about Nintendo future, feel free to PM me. But you will need to have better arguments than just things like "Nintendo don't give a fuck".
