Well, this is certainly a bit random. DSi project leader Masato Kuwahara unveiled two GameBoy hardware prototypes at GDC '09: Project Atlantis and a touch-screen SP.
Wow, impressive stuff although I bet there are a few more still out there, the gaps in years between the GB, GBC and GBA were lengthy and I' sure in those times the odd idea popped up.
keep in mind that the GBA SP shell used isn't contemporary to the time the technology was developed. This was -as I understand it- meant to be a GBC add-on or part of the next GB project?
This was confusing me, I couldn't for the life of me work out why they'd put GBC hardware in an SP shell.
So wait, thats just a GBASP being used as a GBC they had lying around? Or something far more sinister? Speaking of which anyone remember the rumors of Game Boy Evolution or something? Sounded like a PSP. I guess Game boy is dead now that DS is the new....uhhh....game boy.
lol when ever i play my ds in class the teacher tells me to put my gameboy away when will they learn i cant put it away becuase it isnt a game boy its a ds! oh and this might be the game boy "evolution" info or at least rumor info http://www.consoledatabase.com/consoleinfo/nintendogameboyevolution/index.html
oh I have seen too many GB prototypes. The designers stretched the concept all around, including a GameBoy Color-esque cell-phone, an internet-capable GBA (before GBA specs were finalized), and even preliminary research on optical media (well the UMD shot down that prospect anyway).
Instead we got a console that looks like an external PC DVD drive and with the processing power of ~ an Xbox 1!!! Yay!!!!
