The only pictures around of a model like that, which could well have just been a mock-up, looked different. The logo was different and the controller one was, too.

What appeared to be a dev kit surfaced, too - and another probable mock-up from the Play Station era.

Thank you Dnldbld for sharing, it's very cool to see one of these. Please don't do anything you're uncomfortable doing (like opening up the console). As MOP stated please be sure to use an adapter with the proper voltage and polarity, would be a huge shame to see this rare item go up in smoke. It may have some more power info on the bottom so you can make sure you supply it with enough amps as well. If not I'd guess 1 amp would be sufficient. I'm very curious if this thing turns on, what's on the cart and disc, and if you can play standard super famicom games. I think It's bad ass how it has line outs, including S-video.

As for powering up the beast I wonder if a sony ps1 slim ac adapter would work.

Actually that adapter looks like it could work. I wonder if the end plug fits into the prototype? 2 amps actually might work better at that voltage. I was going by the SNES's 850mA, but I forgot about powering the CD drive and stuff.

Help me find the right power supply and I'll boot her up. We've never tried to boot it up before so she should be good to go.

So what kind of hardware does this thing have inside? Is it like an SNES with added CD-ROM hardware, or is it a totally different system?

EDIT: I see this has already sort of been addressed, but since the forum now has no delete feature, I guess I'll just leave it.

looks like an lcd for the audio cd functions.

Have you got a pic of the power port? maybe place a ruler at its base to get an idea of size.

To answer one question, this is a prototype of the PlayStation from when it was compatible with SNES carts and not an add-on for the SNES. This was cancelled due to Nintendo, a day after the Play Station as it was (and in this prototype) was announced, announcing that they were going to make an add-on with Phillips. As you'd expect, Sony did not like this.

It's boggling my mind on what could possibly be on that cartridge and CD that Dnldbld has. This is damn exciting!

 

Besides the date, the cart says "Demo use" if anyone cares Wondering about this CD also!

I would sh*t my pants trying to turn this on.. maybe there is a volt-switch, or dusty inside, could explode,
who knows what could happen when you turn it on!
