How quaint, a prototype for a GBA Mario Kart game that manipulates not one, but two Mode 7 layers. Oh, and already, there are naysayers that think that it's fake or something.

But F-Zero on the GBA does that, doesn't it? Nothing special or did the official GBA Mario Kart not have this feature?

Yeah. It seems that the company showed it off to nintendo as a proof of concept demo. Nintendo then used the technique in F-Zero GBA.

Meme, just like most stupid Internet things is just that, stupid. Not funny, not interesting and just a waste of bandwidth.
Sorry for sounding like a grumpy old man but that's because I am.

I just played it to take a look, and actually it doesn't. All you can see underneath the one mode 7 layer is the bottom of the background image. Weird that they didn't for Mario Kart..

I think Daniel's trying to keep a low profile, especially with all the attention he and the prototype had gotten.

I have only one thought in response to this:

Daniel, you and nerd-god-of-electronics Kevtris need to get together to have him take a look at this thing from the ground up. I'm dying to see the inside of the cart and the console.

Around midnight last night he commented on reddit:

I should be traveling to Hong Kong for a retro gaming expo real soon. Just finalizing the dates and everything. I plan on turning it on when I get there, I just want to make sure nothing is messed up inside it first. I'll most likely do a live stream or something.

You go ahead and take a wild guess...

Very exciting. Thanks for the information, @Syclopse. I'll need to keep up with what expo it is exactly.

Oh, boy! Daniel's gonna have someone take a look at the inside of the prototype to make sure it still works, and if it does, he'll turn it on at the Hong Kong retro gaming expo! This is gonna be sweet!

Dan here again with a better update. My father and I will be traveling to Hong Kong for "Retro.HK" which will be HK's very first retro gaming fair. It will be held from November 28th to December 13th. The prototype will be on display for all to see. Please be sure to visit the Retro.HK facebook page that is linked below. A huge thanks again to Dixon and our sponsors HMV, Restart Workshop and especially the golden brothers of HKGolden!

    Cheers,
    Dan

The guys way more patient than me. I would not be able to wait that long to see if it works, or runs retail games or what is on the cart or disk...
Quite an amazing find. Never thought we would see one that possibly works. That and a prototype of the third Zelda oracle would be my holy grails that I thought never would be possible to even see

Sweet stuff! He's finally gonna have that console looked at by some professional electricians, before turning it on!
