Looks like. According to Joystiq article: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/04/rumor-used-wii-us-let-you-download-previous-users-games/ Basicly, some guy bought a used Wii U, created a new account and was able to redownload previous owner purchased games. And yes, the previous owner had deleted his account before selling it.
when i got my first wii this screwed me over as i had to return it, had the dual layer disc read error, got the new one and now mariokart 64 :-( my own fault i just assumed it would be tied to my account rather than the machine a bit of a stupid way of doing things TBH they should have learned from the likes of microshaft sony and valve/steam
Wonder if the previous owner could load his account onto a new Wii U and download the games again? The 360 had a similar thing happen as it'd license the games for the gamertag AND the 360 the game was being downloaded onto. 1)Load your profile on a friend's 360 2)Buy and download XBLA content on said 360 3)Go home and download previously bought XBLA content onto your 360 And you'd be able to play it on both. At least until Microsoft patched it; unless I'm mistaken and it still isn't patched.
Content is tied to the account. If I download something on my console and log out, a friend cant use the XBLA game or DLC. You need the persons account and their content. So no, that doesnt work.
This still works that way, but the only catch is (when you use above 'method').... when you play the XBLA game on your own X360 you have to be signed into Xbox Live with the account you bought the content with. So if you have more peeps at home using said X360, then they wont be able to buy your bought XBLA games without them using your account to sign in.
To add that; downloadable games are tied to to all console, harddrive and account. To play the game offline you must have both the console and the harddrive. If you don't have the console and just the harddrive you must have the Internet and the online component to play the game. An account can always redownload it's games whether it has a console or a harddrive.
Maybe not cheap but the 360 system still sounds good to me (Well, As long as they allow you to always download the conent and you never lose your account or can recover easy) donno bout the sony, but give me real disks or carts I want to "feel" the game. dont want to start downloading (girl)friends do we ?
I have been wanting to do this for so long, even the old ps2 days were great, there was just so much more fun in that versus jsut talking over a mic with people.
Why couldn't carts be viable these days most flash drives, etc now store more than what discs could and are more resilient? Only downside probably would be cost though.
New consoles will have SSD as memorycard and locked ssd for games (special parts are unlocked for updates LOL) quick I have to get a patent on this.
