    From Wired.com

Nintendo said Wednesday it is developing a new home game console code-named Revolution in an apparent attempt to catch up with rival Sony.

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's president, refused to give details, saying he feared competitors will steal the plan, but said a prototype, which will be shown next year, will deliver "new ideas" for entertainment and won't be merely a more powerful version of its current GameCube machine.

Iwata reiterated his view that Nintendo should not follow the strategy of Sony, which is working on a more powerful chip to drive its next home game machine. He said the gaming industry is reaching a dead end as its past formula for success -- dazzling consumers with more sophisticated imagery -- no longer works.

    VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!

  3. Only revolution I can see for Ninty is revolutionizing 3rd party publishing on the next gen consoles. I wouldn't mind being corrected, but with their recent performance, I don't think they deserve to be around much longer.

Yeh. ALthough they did better this round because there are more decent 3rd party games than there are of 1st party unlike during the N64 days where only Nintendo was the only one making games for the system.. Nintendo needs to stop being Disney.

why bother developing a whole new chip when the gekko cpu is small as bugger ;) they should literally whack 4 gamecubes in 1 box (quad gekko cpu etc) would save a ton of money and be able to keep up the pace with modern stuff. heck whilst there at it why not slap a gekko in the next gen gameboy? ;)

I wonder what the new ideas are, the Nintendo DS was already a good beginning i think, although the idea of 2 screens was not really new :)

New Ideas to them is just another Mario port for GBA or Mario Sunshine 2. Or Zelda Four Swords. Very original :butthead:

Nintendo needs to start realizing that their own games don't sell the console anymore they need big 3rd party peopel like EA, rockstar etc on board to keep up with the others nintendo needs games like GTA GT doom3 etc... to keep main steram gamers happy while the die-hards get their nintendo goodness in the form of zelda etc..

Hope they do this with their next console or else i don't think they'll get verry far in the next round

i think the will begin to regain forces

because the video game industry begin to be saturated
and they whant to make revolution ...and i really think they will make it , ey , just look at the ds! voice suport , touch screen , two screens ..... its not a power competiton now (well it wasn'T but its less than ever now)
its an idea competiton now ..... psp is just like everyone where thinking (ey , its prety cool ...but...no revlutions just continuity ) but ds made and will make a fresh new way to play games .

Nintendo wacked as they made for the the N64 this "exclusive" developper status, they lost a lot of 3rd Party-Members from the SNES-Times. So Sony got all those small and middle companies for the PS one and so . But i think Nintendo has still an assload of Money left.....their most successful system is still GB(A; SP whatever).....
    Cheers

  14. Nintendo probably still have a healthy bank balance, but god only know how they've afforded to develop another home machine as well as the DS and also GBA2, which is probably in development.

They must have lost loads of cash following the N64, 64DD, VirtualBoy and the GC hasn't been the greatest success either.

Is this gonna be the last Nintendo home console? Maybe, unless DS is super popular, and gets the Nintendo brand going again. I've purchased all my Nintendo consoles since the SuperFamicom on release day. But i reckon that DS is gonna be the last release day purchase. Oh well....

But Nintendo need to do something, new updates of MarioKart, Mario and Zelda are great and all, but we need something new.....

Well they can afford all of this thanks to 2 things: Pokemon and the GBA dominating the handheld market.

All I have to say is Good luck Nintendo and it's bitter and narrowminded people like you GSL who killed Sega. You were the people who said...Sega is finished, let Sony have their chance now and wholoa it happened. All I keep thinking is why would you want a 64DD and why would yu want to do a site on N64 if you think Nintendo is finished.nintendo has done far better in this generation than in the last and it still has billions in reserve and thats well after R and D on their new consoles.Nintendo are still making money on each gamecube and gameboy sold. They also make a profit on every game they sell and although they don't output as much as they did oin the past, they have both gba and gc to make games for and they still output twice as many games as your normal publisher.

Nintendo also has a massive stake in Bandai and if you guys actually bothered to read the company's business plans and forecasts for this year, they intend to increase that extremely profitable stake in Bandai by a large margin. Some are even hinting that if Nintendo can get their own way, they will become the majority shareholder with Bandai.

EDIT: Merged the double-post. LeGIt :smt023
