I have never really played any games by this developer but I really want to get a copy of Disgaea and aparently they have a Strat-RPG in dev for the PSP.

The games look fun and unique and I am really into games like tactics ogre, but with quest (ogre battle series) lacking any new releases it's time to broaden my horizons and *gasp* maybe even buy a PS2.

Has anyone played any games by this up-and-coming (though seemingly well established) unique developer?

Are they as good as the hype makes them out to be?

  4. Never, ever take any of the candy that retro offers you. ;)

I've got Disgaea, and I love it - excellent strategy/RPG gameplay, and a wicked sense of humor. I've not played the prequel LaPucelle Tactics or Phantom Brave, but I hear they have a similar amount of quality to them.

yeah the since of humor and the 2d graphics are what is appealing to me, I love 2d and hope a lot of PSP and DS games use it.

I only have La Pucelle, and if Disgaea is anything like it, and you like StratRPGs you'll love it.

hmmm sounds like a plan I just hope that the games arn't gonna be too hard to find

  9. Well to be honest, the itching only lasts for about 48 hours after you initially contract it. Yeah, the tablets are freaking expensive, but I hear they have a cheaper ointment in Canada. I remember hearing the term 'cheesy discharge' in high school health class and thinking it was absolutely hilarious, but not, it's not funny at all, goddammit.

Alright, here's something that should be confusing: Disgaea was released first in the 'states, but LaPucelle was actually the first game in the series. Disgaea has you playing the role of the prince of the underworld trying to reclaim his throne, while LaPucelle focuses on holier factions... Basically, they are almost the same style of gameplay, so if you like one you'll like the other unless you have an odd aversion to either angels or devils.

Disgaea is one of the very best games I've ever played. It doesn't take itself too seriously at all & the humor is pitched just right. I've got Phantom Brave waiting here to be started (c aame with an extra CD of music :) ), but I'm not going to waste it - I need some serious free time to give it justice. UK are getting La Pucelle last for some reason...

Best advice if you do buy it is not to go too crazy levelling up on non-story stuff, it makes things far too easy & your journey through the story is the main reason for playing. Still, you can keep playing as long as you like without ending the game if you don't want it to be over :)

I have Disgaea, La pucelle tactics, Phantom brave, and want to get Rhapsody (Which was a prequel to la pucelle so I hear), and Phantom kingdom.
My Laharl is level 9999, and I have a divine Majin who is level 2000 after transmigrating from level 9999. I have beaten every side quest, and Baal and Uber prinny Baal (With a level 300 character mind you.) I havent really played much of the others, but Disgaea never really gets old. The only ending I havent seen is Etna's and I dont really wanna....at the moment.
If you like side-quests, humor, Tim Burton films, strategy, and have a perfectionist complex, these games are for you.
If you want my Uber prinny Baal strategy by killing him with a level 300 character, all you have to do is ask. :)

Ah, so THAT is where all the "online pharmacy from abroad" spam is about :angry

And I wonder what makes the games similar to Tim Burton films... please elaborate :)

Well Disgaea is close to Tim Burton films since you befriend Demons and such....Aw hell I read it an a PSM magazine, so I put it in! Sounds close to me, though.
