Isnt funny that the biggest criticisms against violence in games always come from places with some very violent backgrounds? like the strict ban on violent games in Germany (once upon a time there were these guys with brown shirts...).

Now in New Jersey, home to the american branch of the Sicilian Mafia, a local website made a poll asking parents what did they think about the Wii zapper looking like a gun.

Here are some of the comments:

Great, this is what we need. Children with guns learning how to aim and shoot. Then we can sit back and wonder what is happening to our country with kids killing kids......what's next? Could we make it squirt blood, too" one reader commented.

A "very concerned grandparent" wrote: "....Why don't they enclose an application to the NRA in every box as well....the marketing person who came up with this brain child of an idea should be fired." Another reader commented, "I think it's irresponsible for Wii to come out with a controller that looks like a gun so kids can play games simulating shooting. What kind of message are we sending as parents when we buy these things for our kids?"

Heres the Link and thank god some comments there show theres still people in jersey with some brains left in their skulls...

I knew this was going to happen the moment Red Steel came out.

they have to just shut up and be a parent. Stop blaming your kid's violent tendencies and restricting our liberties because you don't know how to raise a child. Damn parents, the world isn't made on the clouds, it's full of violence, sex, drugs and rock n roll. It's up to the parents to lie to their kids about a better world, not nintendo.

besides, shooting as a sport is long established - being a good marksman is fun

The most realistic official gun there was for a video game was the original rifle for the Magnavox Odyssey, everything else has looked like a cheap toy gun by comparison.

Still hands up all those that remember the DC not getting the gun released in the states but still releasing house of the dead 2 for some reason that no one knows.

Understand that whenever some company releases anything a newspaper/journalist can make a shock-horror news story out of they will, and there will always be soundbites from people that don't understand the product or who are offended by the idea of it. I bet most of the people asked didn't have a clue but associated the zapper violence/guns and so of course condemned it.

This happens with every news story about anything. People like to hear the human perspective and it makes the story more sensationalist.

Isn't the Zapper also like a Wii version of the Super Scope? I saw a pic of it once, and thats what it reminded me of.

the funny bit is that the Wii controller is already a pointer/gun, depending on how you hold it. The Zapper add-on just ads a level of comfort

Right, and most grand parents (possibly parents) won't know that. If some journalist explains to clueless people that Nintendo are releasing a gun for the system they'd get plenty of people telling them it is terrible/shouldn't be allowed etc. especially in a state/country that has a problem with gun crime.

These people aren't brainless, they're just badly informed and picked out as prime soundbite material.

Speaking of which, how many FPSs does the Wii have anyway? I'd be surprised it there were more than....5.

Are these people retarded? Light guns have existed since the NES. And besides, I don't think learning to use a fake gun makes you want to shoot somebody. That's like saying that using a butter knife makes you want to stab somebody.

Actually light guns were around even back before the Atari 2600.

Who cares what people think. As long as people buy it.

Hell, Learning to use a real gun doesn't make a person want to shoot somebody. Typically people who are passionately against something either don't bother to inform themselves about what their against and spout off nonsense or skewer the facts to a worst case scenario. Either way they tend to end up looking like idiots as a result.

Thats how society works, for example: some months ago an independent study showed a Prius is actually a bigger polluter than a H2. Why? becos the Prius batteries are made using a long process involving several plants in differents parts of the world. That means that along with the already toxic process of making a battery you've to add all the transportation needed in each step (and each plant) of the manufacturing process, until it gets to the toyota plant and into the damn car. Overall, the entire process that makes the batteries produce more pollution per battery pack than what a H2 will ever do.

A normal diesel engine on europe or even south america (diesels are kinda popular there too) yields more MPG than hybrids, and diesels are cheaper to make and safer, cuz theres no risk that the batteries may brake and release the toxic components inside. Yet you cant find a diesel in america thats less than 30 years old.

But try to explain all that to all the smugs who drive hybrids "in your face!" style: they just dont understand that pollution doesnt begins nor ends in the tailpipe...

The irony is that a recent study shows most hybrid owners dont use one to actually help the enviroment, but to make themselves appear less shallow to other people.

Green is the new black, and sadly if corporations can sell you shit using the enviroment they will, even if by doing so it hurts the enviroment instead of saving it.

Yes! So now we have major violence in games, guitar controllers, gun controllers, now I can't wait for the Nintendo Wii Wireless Bong controller. Then the trifecta will be complete!

They could make a game where you have to make two Wii remotes have sex with each other.
