We had a typhoon last night (they never come on a work day  ) which knocked out the power to this area for a whopping 18 hours ! Well pissed that it took them so long to get it back up. The used the excuse that it was still too windy yet last time it happened they were out within a few hours. Ended up having to watch TV on the phone which only lasted for 2 hors or so because I had forgotten to charge it the night before:DOH:

So the power went back on today so naturally the first thing to get switched on was the PC. Would it come on? NO !! The bloody power box was fried due to the cut out ! So off to the store I go in search of another. I ended up going to a shop miles away then got lost ending up on the motorway ! Finally managed to figure out where I was going.

All in all a shitty day. How about you?

How about me ? hmmm reading about some companies in USA proclaiming that their door is bumping free. When they aren´t quite typical since they are trying to put the security in the ignorance defence , but it is real sad, when the power goes off. I remember when a power line went off in Sweden. it affected lot of things in Denmark. And most of Zeeland was without power for about 18 hours, or so.

So when the power goes off. Then it sucks major.

Oh well about the bumping, you can read about here.

    and here

    http://www.toool.nl/index-eng.php

And then you can download the big "What The Bump" a bit longer down the page.

Yeah, we had a lot of power outage issues here a few years ago, and still during every heatwave it goes out becasue of everyone using air conditioners. Thing is the reason it happens isn't becasue of any technical failure, they turn off the power to prevent "more serious" outages. I suppose it is fair as they select districts at random, still bullshit though. More than once the power has gone out in the middle of the night when I was asleep, which screws up my alaram clock so it fails to go off and I end up being late to work the next morining.

Had the power cut out on me while I was recording a play through for a game. Resident Evil 4 for the PS2, Once the power cut I just stopped playing the game I was so mad. The avi I was recording got corrupted since it wasnt stopped properly. Totally turned me off to playing that game again.

I went out and bought a 200$ UPS and now when the power goes out (which happens REGULARLY) my PC is ok for about 20 minutes :)

We also get this much more often at our lake house in the country. Whenever theres a storm the power goes out. This year it went out for a full 3 days and all the food spoiled. Luckily/Un-luckily I wasnt able to get up there at all this year thanks to my job and failing car. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy :|

Every outlet here, except one, has a UPS plugged into it.

We had an ice storm hit us here in south Arkansas several years ago, and we didn't have power for 15 days.

I used to live in northern Minesota. It was practically a requirement to own a generator for outages in the middle of winter.

Damn that's gotta be an expensive setup then.
I tempt fate way to much. I think it's my way of compensating fo my dull life style. No UPS No surge protectors No antivirus protection. So nothing has gone wrong.

18hours? Try 2 weeks. Power was out in my area for almost 2 weeks after hurricanes and don't forget the 90degree weather plus high humidity. No power = no A/C, which = sweat your ass off trying to sleep. So hot, you end up panting like a dog. Plus your food in the fridge spoils, etc.

Overall, power outages due to hurricanes/typhoons suck!

In the UK we never had a power outage or at least not in Liverpool where I'm from. So to me, 18 hours is a pain in the arse

Well you still have a shitty excuse for that - where i live once it starts to rain you have to pull off _every_ computer / monitor or cells because of the bolts..that's rather pitty. They already blew me one desktop PC and a laptop.
