Sony's is putting an 80GB drive into the 40GB system for $399 and dropping the rest. If you want backwards compatibility for your PS3 then get it now. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6194006.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6194006
Well, that sucks, but I agree you're better off using the original systems anyway. Atleast it can be viewed as a good thing as you getting a larger harddrive and a dual shock controller now. You're going to need that larger harddrive since every other game requires a massive HD install.
the 20 and 60GB version (Released in JP and US) was virtually fully Compatible - hardware emulation for all parts. the 80GB version (released in US and JP) was partially compatible - software emulation the PAL 60GB (discontinued early on in favour of a 80GB w/o PS2 support) was partially compatible - software emulation the 40GB PAL is obviously not compatible anyway SUCKS
the 40gb systems could run Ps1 games but now they are saying they cant even run ps1 games with software? Im sorry but thats sad that my xbox can run ps1 games but these ps3s now cant even run ps1 games.
PS1 emulation is virtually 100% supported on ALL PS3 PLATFORMS THROUGH SOFTWARE. It's the PS2 emulation that is the issue.
I don't think there's any nails going into any coffins, all three systems are here to stay. Which is nice.
Ya no one system is going anywhere. They are well established. I think it's a shame if they don't offer a premium version with PS2 compatibility since they don't seem likely to develop a purely software PS2 emulator. But since a PSTwo is only 130$ or so, things are still as they've always been. Just buy the PS2 seperate even though that sorta sucks to have to do that.
Yeah I didnt meant that, but that if Sony wants to defeat the X360, having a PS3 at $299 is the best way to do so.
