http://hostessbrands.com/Closing.aspx Didn't see it mentioned, but damn, no more Wonderbread, Twinkies, or Ho Ho's! . . . How cruel a world.
You can always cross the border and smuggle twinkies in. Twinkies as the Hostess brand there is owned by a different company which might end up buying up Hostess Foods to get more American share. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/glob...usiness-but-canada-unaffected/article5365001/
I've seen people bill this as "UNIONS R BAD!11" but in reality Hostess wasn't doing well. If all it took was a single strike to put them into bankruptcy what would have happened if they had to do a massive recall instead? Or a factory burnt down? Someone will buy the brand, the equipment and the product. We will have twinkies.
Luckily Little Debbi Ho-ho's are much better(IMO) but I will miss wonderbread, Cupcakes, Zingers and the like.
Not to mention they raised executive salaries while cutting the workers' and were going to close down a ton of plants even if the union had accepted their latest pay cut.
Personally, I have no sympathy for the union. Having some jobs is better than having no jobs. If the company wasn't doing well, they need to suck it up and get with the times. Under these economic conditions, you can't expect to have your cake and eat it too. So in some ways, I'm glad they lost their jobs. Rather than work with the company to keep it open, they decided to play hard ball and lost. Sure, they won morally if that's even possible to say, but in reality they lost.
It's a sad day when a junk food industry goes under in the US of all places. At least Tastykake, Little Debbie, and Drake's still exist.
Hostess owned Drake's Devil dogs are dead too Rumor has it Pabst Blue Ribbon of all people are thinking of buying the brand.
Oh, if only I felt the same way, then I wouldn't have even made this thread for lack of sympathy. Ho-Hos are my favorite! And Pabst Blue Ribbon? What a joke.
Not Devil Dogs. Haha, PBR? As long as they don't try to branch out into beer-battered cakes, I'm not complaining.
