Recently had a NPDP-GBOX come in that had a faulty ATX PSU, it looks like this: ...Carried out various tests and repairs, changed starting capacitors etc but PSU was beyond repair. The PSU they use is 'unique' in that it's a really compact footprint, no other's on the market, as far as I'm aware, even come close to fitting. (Original item is available from Germany @ £100 +, plus a 4 week wait!!!!) So I thought sod that I can build a PSU for nowt, here goes, I cut up a piece of 0.125" Dural, popped it on the vertical mill, machined out the cooling slots/holes, folded it to a 90 degree 'L' shape and finally drilled and tapped the mounting holes for a 'regular' P.C ATX supply. ...I used a 400W Q-Tec PSU as it was what I had to hand. All I did to the PSU was unsolder all the wires that weren't needed, such as the IDE leads etc, just leaving the mobo connector. This is what I ended up with... Before I fitted it to the console I gave it a PAT (Portable Appliance Test) to check the earth bond, all was sweet, so in it went. Works a treat, it's not 'pretty' but I thought that you guys might be half interested just in case you ever need an idea ...Of course if anyone finds any spare 'cheap' PSU's of the original type I'm all ear's, lol.
