i have the virtual station interactive the blue version which is just a famicom clone. I had it put way then I realized it was a famiclone. So in my haste to whip it out and try it i didn't have the power cable so i tried different ac adapter's(bad idea) and i didnt notice i needed a 5v adapter so i ended up over loading the system and it smoked a little bit. I open it up after i immediately yanked the cable t find a capacitor had blown. the voltage i used before was some kind of laptop charger. So did blow the chip frying it forever? or did i get lucky and the capacitor acted as a fuse and saved the whole? as if anyone else happens to have this same consol can they tell me what kind of capacitor is used at spot C18 on the board its by the power supply i think its a 100uF 6v or maybe 16v , also is there any way of telling which the casing on the cap was wrecked

Can't tell you what the capacitor was since I don't have one but I can say it probably lived. Only way to know is to replace it and get the proper voltage source. I once accidentally plugged a 19 volt source into an Atari 7800 Flashback and it lived. That thing took a 9 volt source and had a 7805 regulator in it for 5 volts. Regulator literally blew up. I just removed it and ran 5 volts to it. Still works to this day. So hopefully the exploding capacitor didn't hurt the chips. Have to try it out and see.

Do you have pictures of the "crime scene" ?

Edit, the cap is most likely a decoupling cap, and when you overvolt them, they can just blow up like that.
If the rest of the machine is still good depends on how it was made.

No you cant, its completely depending on the circuit - as MaxWar said.

Just because you had 1 case of 1 machine working, doesnt mean it likely all will survive.

Most proper consoles would probably survive. But clones can be of dubious quality and corners cut.

If the original PSU is 5v, its possible its used directly without a voltage regulator - which means its a direct input into a lot of the chips.
