I noticed today that when playing some games on my SMD1/MCD2/32X setup that the RGB output (put through a RGB to component transcoder) looked like the video was noisier than what I remember when using my setup sans 32X. To make sure it wasn't the transcoder, I checked my RGB-modded PCE Duo-R, which has no dramas, then took my RGB cable out of my SMS1 and plugged it into the SMD's video-out. Sure enough, the things was back to looking gloriously stunning. So, the question of a solution is - this being the only 32X I've ever had, is it to do with the 32X itself, the cable picking up noise from the SMD and the 32X (the cable's an original Sega cable that came with my new/boxed Japanese 32X I bought a year or so back), or (more likely?) the RGB cable coming off the 32X. I've found this on eBay which talks of being a better cable - is this likely to work? Thinking of it, the picture does seem to be having vertical bars which I'm assuming is what the jailbar effect is, so this might well be the go. Any thoughts? Pretty sure my RGB cable's a bog-standard RGB wired up to the pinout common to the SMD2/Nomad/32X, so perhaps it isn't rigged up to get the 32X's RGB output to look perfect.
Just thought I'd post an update on this - I picked up one of those boosted sync RGB cables from Retro Game Accessories and the picture quality is back to the same gorgeous RGB output from my SMD1 before I added the 32X. Hopefully if someone else finds their RGB output on a 32X loaded with jailbars, this info will help!
Thanks for the seeking and finding answers before I might need that information! With my Framemeister in hand... it's time to make everything RGB! :congratulatory:
Get cables from this seller best cables. fully ground unlike others. http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-seller-S...t=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item257a415f5a
That's the person I picked up my cable from And yup, RGB is a beautiful thing. Yakumo's special on the Framethingie look spectacular - if I didn't have a CRT for retro games and only had a HDTV, I'd definitely pick one up.
just a warning, if you plan to use it on new samsung HDTVs, get a raw sync cable which sends c-sync instead of composite video at pin 20. samsungs don't like composite video from scart pin 20.
Samsungs dont mind composite video on pin 20 - after all, its the composite video pin when not using RGB. Samsungs dont like using composite video as sync in RGB mode is more accurate!
yup, that is more accurate. though i didn't feel the need for clarifying anymore as the thread is about RGB video. i got myself an official sega mega drive 2 RGB cable which sends composite video on pin 20 and my samsung tv displays artifacts. some kind of zig-zag pattern. crt works fine though. i will try to use a sync-stripper as i don't want to mod the cable or the console.
sad to hear that. i will surely report back after i try and mod the console or 32x for c-sync out if it doesn't work.
Oh I wish I didn't have to wait for my cables to arrive. Which TV is my main TV? A Samsung of course! :boxing: Should be interesting...
