So I got a Nokia 3660 phone for my birthday(bought through t mobile), my old one was about to die... literally after it got beat up bad in a car crash. Anyway, so I pop the new SIM card in and have it import my phone book, alls well, except when I want to add my ringtones. My old data cable obviously doesnt work with it, and I have no way of moving over my ring tones. I'm not paying no 5 dollar a month plan for crappy WAP access through their GPRS network. Now, I'll be the first to say I've got no idea what does what when it comes to cell phones, but I read this manual, including legal information cover to cover and still I can't access a WAP page I created. I set up a GSM "access point" in the phone with my home dial up service. User name, pass, number, etc. I also make sure the data call type is Analog. The right hand button on the phone at its main screen says "t-zones", even after entering the configuration program and manually adding my book mark, it wont let me connect with anything but t-zones. I figure.. must be some sort of protection so I look up nokia 3660 locked phone... low and behold I find a Nokia unlocking website... Not fully understanding what it does (it did mention GMS networks which is what I guess the USA voice system runs on as well as the data?). So I generate a code and voila, the phone is then unlocked... or so it says... It still says t-zones as the second option and the t-zones access point is "protected"and "undeleteable". Basically, is there any way without going and buy a cable I can't afford or subscribing to their pitiful network just to get measily ring tones I wrote (so no, you cant get htem else where :/). I went as far as calling T-Mobile and threatening legal action. I have the address of their legal department. The supervisor I spoke to refused to allow me to record the phone call, respecting his right to privacy I did not, he said their legal department had no phone number (yeah right....)Anyway, if this doesn't work, in the phones own manual it tells me I can do this, I don't care if "they don't support it", its a standard voice call, they have no business locking it out of the firmware and no where in the manual does it mention this feature being locked or locking of access points. The phones manual says I can do this and if they are stopping me, then thats false advertisement. Regardless, is there anything I can do short of giving in to them or taking legal action?
Just transfer them to your phone via Bluetooth or if you have access to a card reader then just copy them to the phone's memory card.
just get a card reader and copy them to your phone or use bluetooth both are equipped on your phone and both sollutions are dirt cheap. And about the lock..what did you expect..the reason the phone is soo cheap is because they lock it to their settings which are locked in place by nokia under contract from t-mobile..everything on that phone is factory locked and can't be deleted unless you go through the illigal way of firmware updating the phone.
I guess ill have to get a blue tooth adapter then :/ sadly I wont be able to view stuff on my intranet locally as I had hoped either heh. The phone wasn't cheap though... ~200USD... I am curious though, if I were to go the route of the firmware flsh, where would I begin looking? I paid alot of money for my phone and I really expect to be able to use the features I paid for...
Nokia tended to use weird expensive equipment for firmware flashing, i.e. it couldn't be done using the "normal" data cable. Dunno if it's still like that though (google for DCT3 and DCT4)
Maybe you should look arround your place..here you can find shops that unlcok phones for $20-30 ish takes 20-30 minutes and your phone's simlock free
That cable is very expensive down here, so i don't even bother buying. My next cellphone won't be a Nokia, i guarantee you.
Well the bad thing is several other manufacturers have gone the same route, like Motorola with its Emmibox (if I'm not mistaken) and Sony Ericsson requiring a special USB cable to change firmware. Oh I miss the days when one could simply unlock a phone with a serial cable and a DOS program!
Oh I have no problem whatsoever unlocking the phone to use other SIM cards, just firmware flashing is what I'm not sure about. And sice TMobile and Cingular are the only two providers in the USA I know that still use GSM (everyone else is on CDMA), I'm not left much choice in the matter. I'm not sure if you european users have locked firmware on the phones out there, but if you do I'm going to have to contact Nokia Europe and bega them to let me get a phone from them lol.
