OK, so one of my favorite FPS games is No One Lives Forever (NOLF) by Monolith Production (they also made FEAR 1+2). It's an stealth FPS with a female protagonist (Cate Archer) said to be the female Bond. BUT the multiplayer is where it was at. You log into a server blow some people up and then leave when your bored. No teams, so there is no frustration when people start leaving the server! I've been working on this idea to make a free for all death match style game on the source engine loosely based on NOLF where you use various classes. The class you pick will also be the character you pick, and they will have various spy gadgets such as an exploding credit card that has sharp corners and you can throw and stick into walls (or people), female characters may have lipstick bombs, or a bug you can plant in one room and hear the footsteps in that room no matter where you are in the map. NOW this is where the assembler community comes in. I am looking to put a team together to work on this game on the Source engine, or Unreal. I know more about source. I can do 3d modeling but i cannot texture, I can write weapon scripts but I'm not the best at coding C++. I can animate and compile for the source engine. So really what I am looking for is a team to work on a no-budget game prototype to get a kickstarter going for it. If we can do that then everyone who works on the final release will get paid! (So don't think I am looking for free labor!) I need: Additional modeler Texture artist C++ programmer mappers thinkers! (people to help me iron out the details of the classes, weapons, accesories) Please let me know it you think this idea will fail...and if you are interested in joining Team NOLF send me a PM! Thanks -DJNet
Ah NOLF, such an awesome and under appreciated franchise, shame Monolith up and abandoned it when F.E.A.R came about. Can't help you with the project but i can tell you chances of getting a Kickstarter going, not gonna happen. If you want to work on a conversion mod you have to do it completely freely, otherwise you start crossing the shady gray line and could get into trouble. You know you can still play the NOLF2 multi player right?
yes of course I still play it...i much prefer NOLF the original though. It had this brand of comedy that I havent seen in a game for a long while! And I want to make it LOOSELY based on it. I though about calling it No One Lives For Too Long, as a nod to the fast paced game play of multiplayer. It would be more of a spiritual sequel! I also though about just calling into Monolith's legal dept. and picking their brains to see if i can get this project rolling!
The idea i have for the gameplay will be instant respawn with 1 to 2 second spawn protection to reduce the frustration with certain types of players that are commonly associated with rage quitters (ie campers and rocket thumpers) because it will keep the game moving so quickly that you will have ample time to get that d-bag back here in a second! This will keep the game flowing and keep the player interested for longer because they wont have that "F" it moment (or maybe not as quickly). It will be one of those games where you hop on a server for 10 minutes before work or stay and play all day and watch everyone come and go.
sounds good, i like the choice between respawn and, die > wait till next round. gives extra depth in gameplay and tactics. goldeneye / perfect dark / timesplitters style weapon sets would be excellent too, although more work, can help balance gameplay and again avoid the frustration / rage quitters just throwing some ideas out there but of course that may take away from the NOLF style
see you are perfect for this project...you can be one of the thinkers! Because in all reality the only elements from NOLF i want to take and use here is the fast paced multiplayer and the zany gadgets.
