I'm guessing it's not as dangerous as western media would have us believe, but I have read on some travel journals that you should be careful what you say and do and stick with the "guides". As long as you do that, you'll have a great time.

And I hope you do. :icon_bigg

Well first off, you’re escorted around by your guides. So basically, you’re asking them for any permission for whatever you do. Second, you’ll probably stop at any number of memorials all for blessing/praising their dear leader. If you have a problem with doing/saying those things, your probably not a good choice to go on a trip to North Korea. All food and accommodations are paid out in hard cash. Almost all the stores you will go to are not local, and sell only in some hard form of currency. USD is popular since the government wants more money that’s useful for worldwide exchanges. I’m told; they also like to laundry “super notes” in exchange for real bills given from tourists etc. In terms of food, you’ll be ok. I say ok, because probably 95% of the people in that country eat much worse than you will, but although everything says “5 stars” the food you eat probably will be “unspectacular” by western standards. Mainly due to reasons such as food shortages and such, menu’s probably won’t be too varied. I'm told you should probably expect to be eating a lot less meat, since thats harder to come by.

As far as the whole economics of the trip go, just bare in mind that virtually everything you buy and spend goes directly to the government, and helps fund the government and its people/programs. Oh, and if you get sick, forget about going to a local hospital. Your best bet is to fly to China/South Korea and get some real medical attention.

try to ask the fuckers, where they put the people with psychological handicaps, and the spastic paralyzed. Since if they tell you it, then you are going to get shocked. They are in death camps or something very similar. Have fun in North Korea.

Ya, its beyond me why anyone would want to go. There's so much better places go visit, of which, they don't need to rob you of your passport for "security" reasons :/

Why the fuck would you go there? Not exactly a smart place to go. Generally any country you could go to and disappear is a bad idea. Why not go to a more civilized and interesting country? Better yet, why go anywhere at all?

    I'm still jealous...but I have a strong desire to go where I'm not supposed to go...unfriendly countries...forbidden holy cities...etc.

That is, until you end up being kidnapped by terrorists, or detained for being a forign spy. In which case your doomed to spend years in some labor camp watching propaganda films.

In north korea's case, they've been known to kidnapp forigners, since they make good teachers for spys who need to know the regular day to day's of life in a forign (Ie. Better) country.

You do realize that everyone a tourist would meet in North Korea is essentially an actor, right? It would be like going to Disneyland and getting in Mickey's face about working conditions at Disney. There's nothing the guy can do about it and you'll just ruin his day for no reason.

also remember if one of the group does something silly the entire group won't be allowed to leave till they interogate the culprit for few days so they can make the point - it happened before...

I'd love to see North Korea in person but I know for sure what a shit hole it really is. On Japanese TV we see stuff that people in the west have never seen! We even have documentaries with people who have escaped. They give very detailed information on life there. NOT A VERY NICE PLCE FOR SURE  The Japanese are always taking undercover footage in North Korea as well. The place is nothing like you'd believe that's for sure. Even the underground train which is very deep underground has no automatic doors. The passengers have to close them! Also the sick bastards face (Kim Il Jong) is everywhere. You just can't escape.

When the North Korean Volleys Ball team came to Japan they were blind folded from the airport until they reached their room at the Volley ball arena. Nobody could speak to them and they couldn't speak to anybody. Basically they were kept from knowing just what a real world is!

Too bad the N. Korean government would torture the friends and families of the abductees if they came clean about what the place is like. I'm sure their point of view is radically different from a North Korean.

Yeah, I read about that. If anyone escapes, their family are tortured then killed. They are real evil bastards in North Korea for sure.

Remember that North Korean Cheerleading squad that goes to international sporting events. Word is that a few of them ended up in prison camps for breaking their promise not to tell others what they saw on the outside.

I hear the daily rations people get is rediculous. Like 250g per day or something now, down from 300g. Thats not even a snack in the real world! If real citizens saw what visitors ate, they would think it was a feast. To visitors, just lunch. :/

You do realize, I don´t give a shit about it ? since not even a billion dollars would be tempting in a bargain deal . So I could go in and be a "tourist" in a country that violates the human rights. So that conclusion rules out, a lot of countries.

I'm specifically referring to the Japanese abductees. The ones that lived there for 20 years or whatever and "theoretically" escaped in 2002 or whatever year it was. Where N. Korea let them temporarily go back to Japan, and Koizumi bent over and spread his butt cheeks to Kim Jong Il once they arrived.

the only country (in Asia) which I would compare North Korea to, is Burma (fuck the military junta name Myanmar ! ! !). And there insane actions against their population, and all what is happening right now. And them killing of the democratic dreamers , the Karen People. And all what happened some months ago with the buddhistic monks. Of course China is also an extreme country, but they are a bit better than North Korea and Burma. No wonder why, Rambo 4 is about Burma and about the Karen People.
