I wondered if anyone else is compiling a collection of consoles and games like mine? My collection is really a nostalgic and personal one as I'm collecting every console and game I and my brother used to own as kids. ...Game Gear, Master System 2, Megadrive 2, NES, Gameboy, SNES, PS1, N64 & Dreamcast & about 50 games. Not only does it rekindle great memories but it also means my collection has defined limits and I don't end spending too much! This pic kind of sums up how these old games made us all feel and getting all that stuff back is really satisfying. http://www.smstributes.co.uk/view_article.asp?articleid=29 Anyone elso think so?
because i never sold a console or videogame i originally owned, i don't need to but great idea, best luck that you find it all!
Thanks, I really wish I hadn't sold it all. Only the N64 is the original we used to own. It's a shame but I had to sell my Game Gear to buy a SNES and so on.
This is a really good idea, and I kinda do the same thing too, though I also get consoles I wish I had as a kid, like the Saturn :110:
Yeah, I've also strayed off the path a bit and got a couple of boxed consoles that I didn't originally own like a Mega CD and Sega Saturn! The hard part is remembering all the games you used to own. It may only be 15 or so years ago but I'm sure some have eluded my memory! I guess you could say I'm putting the collection in recollection!
not necessarily. I found myself disgarding game and systems I played as a kid to get the cooler japanese versions. Anything I picked up during my childhood that's worth keeping I held onto (except for mario 3 which I just re-bought). I didn't get into it to rekindle memories. I've been playing most of these games since they were hot off the shelves. And still enjoy them today. One thing I do sometimes find silly is people enjoying the uglier USA versions of certain consoles and games just because "that's what I grew up with". Seems like a really weak reason to prefer something.
I remember back in '91 seeing pics of the NTSC SNES and thinking it looked really cool. I was a little disappointed when the UK version came out & it looked just like the Super Famicom. I still have a hankering for that blocky NTSC SNES design. There's no accounting for taste I suppose!
I know a whole bunch of people who like the American Super Nintendo just for its bulky design and I count myself to them. I was quite surprised when someone (from the US) here in this forum said the US SNES looked like a piece of shit and he would love to put the hardware into a PAL SNES case. ^^
I enjoy a lot of uglier USA versions preciely for that nostalgic reason. But I also enjoy owning the JP version of many games if the box art is indeed much cooler (I pretty much only pick up Mega Drive games for that reason, if they're cheap). What I find silly are people thinking something is much cooler simply because it's from the almighty JP. Although I'd agree in general their package design is usually better. I find the differences interesting, especially when the game contents change (difficulties, etc.).
