I'm struggling to get them from contacts I have that have availability to the not for resale games..
I keep being told they are sent back to the companies the receive them from?

Any tips, other than paying an arm and leg?

Any approach I should try to aqquire them?

Also other not for resale games, not limited to DS.

Most not for resale games on the DS aren't really worth paying arm and leg for as they're exactly the same,if not almost the same as the retail release. The exceptions I can think of would be the Pokemon distribution carts and the Diamond and Perl demo cart.

This. If the content is not different, then I've never understood paying more for NFR or "Promo" carts/discs because with those you're actually getting less than retail (no box/dox).

NFR/Promo releases that have different content? Totally collectible.

Identical to retail? That's a sucker's market, IMHO.

Yeah I understand it is a sucker market, I'm trying to reel in on the buyers, as well as keep some stuff for myself which I deem collectible.

However, everyone is proving to be difficult, no idea on how to get them

Implying that they'll allow you to take home the promo games and NFR stuff to start with. You realize when these things aren't sent back to the companies the store gets a fine from them right?

Officially, yes, stores have to send them back.

Unofficially, nothing happens. Typically stores are told to destroy them.

That usually means employees take them home.

How do you think the majority of NFR titles get out there? They're coming direct from employees at game stores.

If you want a solid source, make friends with one, promise to buy *everything* they supply (even the crap games) at a fixed cost, then you have your source of carts to sell.

Or, get a job at a game store.

The majority of Nintendo DS kiosk "Not For Resale" carts actually have different content and are very different from the retail releases. If the front label of a DS cart reads "Not For Resale" chances are it's a true demo version of the game, not the full version. There are only a handful of kiosk NFR carts which are the full game: Advance Wars Dual Strike and one of two versions of WarioWare Touched. There are a few others which only have white stickers on the backs of the carts, which actually are normal retail carts and in general are not so in demand.

There are also the Pokemon Distribution Cartridges you mentioned, Download Station cartridges (19 volumes), non-interactive video loops on cartridges (Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, Dragon Quest IX & two multigame ones used in DSi XL displays) as well as one-off download carts for games like Nintendogs, Transformers and Animal Crossing.

However, most kiosk carts for Nintendo consoles PRIOR to the DS usually (but not always) contain the same content as the retail version. (Exceptions here there are Donkey Kong 64, Zelda Majora's Mask & Turok 2 on N64, and Zelda Minish Cap, DK Jungle Climber & Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga on GBA.)
