Actualy Ultra64 was the original launch name of the n64 but the ultra was droped. The n64 development name I think was Reality. Neither Dolphin or Revolution were ment to be the final name, they were always development names. Same reason we say Gameboy yet to nintendo development it's DMG or like I mention, We say DS yet development says Nitro. Yet oddly Gameboy color is CGB and Gameboy Advance is AGB. They went backwards on that. The one next to me is labled dolphin. Besides the name DDH is Dolphin Development Hardware. States so right on the front.
^ what paulo said. DMG was Dot Matrix Game. I think the top of the unit also states it. Yet my memory is a little fuzzy on that part.
Lol. Someone is going to get fired ;-) for having that picture posted. That's just the test unit, right? Did someone give you that picture cahaz or did you find it elsewhere? I'd watermark it...
it was called sfx in preliminary development documents around 1989. if you think about it, the product code of nintendo consoles is often related to the consoles prior codename, for example: (in the order of release name-prototype name-product code of released console) gamecube-dolphin-dol virtual boy-virtual utopia experience-vue nintendo ds-nitro-ntr gameboy-dot matrix game-dmg gameboy advance-advance gameboy-agb (iirc) the snes' product code is shvc, while the original nes was hvc, that would indicate that it was just called super famicom or super nes from the beginning. just a guess, though.
If I were to buy one I'd be afraid that my parents would come over and raise all kinds of hell thinking that it was some bizarre sex toy.
Project Reality was never ment to be a launch name unless you just mean to correct me where I said I think it was Reality vs Project reality. Interesting thing. Even tho much of the system labled Reality like RSP/RDP/RCP/RDRAM, I believe for the most part alll development software refers to the system as N64. Unlike say DS where everything refers to it as nitro regarding development. Also the N64 DD unit is called Leo in development docs & sdks.
PlayStation originated from the SNES-CD project, but surely this won't count in your list... or will it?
It may have the Revolution sticker on it, to remind everyone it is a prototype machine with an unfinished chipset, the machines running at e3 were just running with a modified flipper with more ram, the finished GPU of hollywood was not completed in time for e3 and developers had programmed all their software on either target pc's or modified dolphin kitts.
