I was bored and search for dev hardware on Google. Anyway, I think I might have found something interesting. If it's not the NR Writer, then does anyone know what it is?
I doubt an NR writer would be in a gamecube shell, as it doesn't need any gamecube hardware. I agree that it probably is just an NR-reader in a different colour
NR readers do come in colours other than green. The one on the Assembler site is the standard blue/purple GC colour.
There's some piccies of the tdev on the sn systems site: http://www.snsys.com/GameCube/SN-TDEV.htm wish they had pics of other stuff though... :-( kevin
Does anyone have a model number on the nr-writer. It would be interestign to do some research to see how it matches up to other dvd writers
Nintendo's (GameCube) NR-Writer Unit!!!! The Nintendo GameCube NR-Writer is a Ultra SCSI 50 HD Burner. Here is some more info. Model Number of unit is Panasonic / Mitshitia 9501 SW SCSI NR-Writer The NR-Writer is an optical disc writer that creates NR-Discs. Although it looks like a standard DVD-R with SCSI interface, it’s much cooler! The NR-Writer is specifically designed to produce 8cm NR-Discs. The NR-Writer software only accepts GCM files. The NR-Writer can burn a GCM disc image to an NR-Disc in about 20 minutes. You can daisy-chain up to four NR-Writers on a single SCSI card, allowing multiple disc images to be burned simultaneously.
Thanks for the info Nintendo. From it I was able to find the drive Now all i need to find is the software. Anyone out there can help I would appreciate it.
http://udc.netfirms.com/CDROM__DVD.htm This is the only place I found it for sale. It's about $6500. Has anyone found one cheaper?
Are you referring to this one on that link you posted = PANASONIC SW-9501-TXX EXTERNAL SCSI DVD RAM DRIVE? ...If so it won't work, if its another drive please advise.
You need a special BIOS for the drive apparently, the retail unit won't burn NR disks natively, even with the SNsys software.
