Hi! I'm just wondering if you can play all 32x roms with the everdrive using a NTSC 32x on a PAL mega drive or do you absolutely have to mod the 32x or the mega drive? Thx in advance!
it's worth the trouble. 50/60 hz and language mods are system wide. almost anything everdrive plays will benefit (except for pal only releases that just aren't programmed to like 60hz). i think i heard everdrive now even offers some degree of master system support (still need to detach the 32x), and mega cd bios loading. haven't tried those options yet.
If you're happy just playing PAL 32X games (Everdrive supports region free for MegaDrive anyway), you don't have to mod the MegaDrive at all. You do need to mod the 32X though to make it actually work on your PAL machine. I actually have the inverse problem (PAL 32X, NTSC-U Multi-Mega) and have sent my 32X to http://www.consolepassion.co.uk/ for modding.
I don't plan to mod what little I've got. I'm holding out for a MD1 without the license screen, that'll be nicer. But it's hard since Genesis caused MegaDrive to never be released in my country...
Doing the mod definitely worth the trouble. I've done the 50/60Hz and language mod on both the megadrive and 32X so now I can play absolutely everything.
You could just grab an NTSC Genesis from ebay too, and stick to using NTSC versions of games with the Everdrive. If you dislike the Genesis branding and would prefer the MegaDrive branding (as us Europeans tend to), you could switch the shells.
Sounds OK. You're right an NTSC Genesis motherboard without license screen would achieve my goal too. Still it'd leave the problem of finding a compatible MegaDrive shell. Having some evidence to demonstrate how rare MegaDrive systems are here, would go a long way to help convince people I'm not joking around with them. Not sure how I could do that... Hmm.
You can get a mk1 megadrive on ebay for £10 with free delivery to the UK (me). Just pay for the additional cost for me to send to the USA and i will do it for you. Console only shouldnt cost too much - I can weigh one and get you a quote later if you like.
