    hi,

i got my deluxe gamecube from assembler yesterday (with xeno chip installed), but i wasn´t aware that there are problems using a ntsc gamecube on a pal tv. i only get a black/white-screen.
i tried to force pal mode by pressing x at the loading screen, but that doesn´t do anything. are there any solutions so that i can play in colour?

Get a vga converter for GC, about $15 or a ntsc-pal converter also about $15.

    Buy an RGB SCART cable.

Oh right, yeah, NTSC Cube don't support RGB natively. You'd have needed a more expensive cable for colour. Would work though.

That's right, there's some info here and here that may come in handy.

What happens when you try a PAL version game? I thought software determines the color encoding.

If you're trying to use a pal rgb cable with an ntsc gamecube, you aren't getting rgb anyway. Maybe composite at best should the cable still be wired for that.

A modded cable is probably great, but if you can''t/don't want to make it yourself it was cheaper for me to replace my retro tv with a fully ntsc compatible model than to buy a modded cable (plus it works on say, AV Famicom). You still can't use RGB scart, but you can at least play in colour over composite. You might be able to use it just fine on an LCD, but it varies depending on the tv.

The NTSC gamecube has a different video encoder chip (DAC) than the PAL gamecube.

The PAL can, other than PAL, output Composite+RGB, whereas the NTSC outputs Composite+S-Video.

But seriously, which TV doesn't support NTSC these days?

There's the Component cable that plugs into the Digital Video port. It's expensive, but can do 480p (and with modification RGB+HV sync i.e. VGA), but not all games support it. qoob was able to patch some games to 480p, but for some games it simply doesn't work because the framebuffer has to be larger so they run out of memory.
