Ok, here is where i'm at... I have got my SCPH-10000 PS2, a PCMCIA adapter and the (official) 40GB HDD all ready to go, I have installed FMCB and can boot to uLaunchelf no problem... HDD is accessible and i've formatted it with ule, HDL partitions boot and work great. Does anyone know how i can install the official or hacked mbr HDD OSD or even PSBBN? I have the official DVD discs, version 1 and 1.1. These install a small "update" to the memory card as well as the DVD software. 1. Do the official HDD install discs install something else to the memory card to initiate HDD OSD on boot up (due to SCPH-10000 proto-kernal)? 2. If so can this be achieved with cd-r versions? As i don't have originals, NTSC(J) Swap Magic etc? 3. Am i just kidding myself, and need to find an original Pressed HDD Utility disc? :dejection: thanks guys.
The NTSC J HDD Utility Disc 1.00 installs the kernel patch (osdsys.elf) and the OSDSYS update (osd110/osd130.elf) to the MC, along with the DVD Player. An unaltered CDR backup of the HDD Utility Disc can install HDDOSD files to the HDD, as long as the console region matches the disc region and the HDD is the official HDD; but MC files (kernel patch, OSDSYS and DVD Player) can't be installed. There are hacked discs somewhere but it has not yet been proven that they can install the second package of MC files (OSDSYS + Kernel Patch). NTSC U/C utility discs obviously don't have the kernel patch. One more thing : AFAIK, HDD Utility Discs cannot run or work properly when launched with ESR or in a CDVD drive emulator. Swap Magic or a disc swap with a retail game is OK. Modchips are OK too but some have to be disabled when signing MC files or doing any MG crypto task. There's a few walkarounds. The good thing is that you do have your FMCB setup working. Check out Richi's blog if you didn't. If needed, I've uploaded the official kernel patch and the OSDSYS update which come from the PSBBN 0.32 disc. As a bonus, the ATAD.IRX of the OSDSYS is patched to not reject non$ony HDDs.... Links are in pastie 6O31929...
Thanks krHACKen for explaining it all. I'd like to try the kernal patch you mention, but can't seem to locate it within pastie! edit. Works great. Psbbn.32 works great. Thanks again. confirmed working: SCPH-10000 & $ony 40GB external HDD. (Browser 2.00 and PBBN v.32 ) SCPH-10000 & Generic 320GB HDD in the external enclosure. (Browser 2.00 and PSBBN v.32 mbr patched) both boot correctly with the same files on MC.. as krHACKen said though DVD player is NON-functional..:congratulatory:
