I have just bought a Japanese Mega Drive from a local Games/Anime/Manga convention. The console worked fine.

I say worked for a reason. The console is an original model Japanese, NTSC-J, Sega Mega Drive 1, model number: HAA-2510. It had an internal RF modulator installed, forcing what should be a 60hz system (the reason i bought it) into 50hz, via both the RF cable and the AV socket.

I did some digging and found this thread, showing how to remove the mod:
    http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?12766-HAA-2510-convert-back-to-NTSC-from-its-PAL-RF-mod

I removed the mod and made the necessary soldering adjustments.

But now all i have is a black screen, games wont even boot anymore.

What have i done wrong? :(

    EDIT: Also found this. http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16236&start=0

And yes, i did go willy nilly :'(

If it has been fixed for 50Hz they would have hard wired an oscillator, a cap and resistor on the other side of the board to force it into "PAL" mode. Did you remove these and restore the original traces?

Have seen this before and removed the RF modulator as well as restore ALL traces to their former glory

I removed 1 resistor, 1 oscillator, the RF unit and a bunch of wires. I couldn't see a cap to remove. Could it be on the top side?

I THINK i restored the traces. But to be honest, i'm having a hard time digging up the correct, i.e. Concise, info :S
