    They are pretty much what the wiki article describes that being broadcasts meant for imbedded spys. They are interesting though.

    that's what i believe - though there is no concrete evidence of it. Only one government has acknowledged their existence - the UK. and all they said - is that they are illegal to listen to

    The UK source just said they "weren't for public consumption", it's the article that speculates that it may be illegal to listen to them. I think the police have better things to do than track down people who are listening to messages which are impossible to decrypt, anyway.

    Yes, they are pretty interesting. I was kind of a multi-band radio nut as a child, and I remember listening to these stations, and others. Soothing, but eerie at the same time.

    same here. I loved scanning the short wave bands for odd stuff. I never found a numbers station but I did fine one with pulse tones. Long wave radio was also cool as a kid because we could receive broadcasts from many parts of Europe. These days most radios only have FM and AM or as they were called when I was a kid, VHF and MW.

    i've never heard of these before. it's pretty crazy stuff though. some of those sound clips would be good to use in a montage or something...
